Ticket Giveaway: Thurston Moore & Byron Coley @ The Corcoran

Ticket Giveaway: Thurston Moore & Byron Coley @ The Corcoran

July 25, 2008 by Cale Send to a Friend Send to a Friend

Ok, first, read the press release:

The Corcoran Gallery of Art will present a lecture and book-signing featuring iconic rocker Thurston Moore and esteemed music writer and editor Byron Coley on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 7 p.m. Moore and Coley will discuss the rarely documented No Wave period, the avant-garde art and music movement that began in the late 1970s in New York City as addressed in their new book, No Wave: Post Punk. Underground. New York. 1976-1980.

Moore and Coley selected 150 unforgettable images, most of which have never been published previously. They compiled hundreds of hours of personal interviews to create an oral history of the movement, providing a never-before-seen exploration and celebration of the movement.

Moore is one of the founding members of the iconic band Sonic Youth and the author of Mix Tape. Coley is an esteemed music writer and editor who has contributed to numerous publications. Moore worked directly with Glenn Branca, Lydia Lunch and others whose images and interviews feature prominently in the book. They will share their first-hand experiences of this volatile, artistically-charged movement.

The book is the first work to visually chronicle the movement and provide an in-depth look at this period of avant-garde art and music. It focuses on the true architects of No Wave as well as the luminaries that intersected the scene.

I am Thurston for some free tickets. Also, Experimental Jet Set Trash & No Star was the first cd I ever remember buying (I was in 8th grade). My love runs deep. But my favorite song ever is (the only twice played live) “Purr” from Dirty. I also took paparazzi photos of the Gordon-Moores in Nolita a couple of weeks ago. If you give me free tickets, I will show them to you!

“Dirty Boots” - Goo.

“Tom Violence” - EVOL

“Pipeline/Kill Time” - Sister

(This was hard to narrow down… here’s one more for fun:
“My Arena” silly track off of The Diamond Sea single. Sorry for breaking the three song rule, but judging by the entries above, no one else is following the directions very well either.)

I want to hug Thurston again, but this time I’ll be sober.
