I hate technology and it hates me right back.
So, because our photo uploader is on the fritz you have to wait till tomorrow to read and see about Les Savy Fav, Beach House, Hirshhorn etc but INSTEAD we’re gonna give you some free tickets to ease the pain.
Which is rad.
Anyway, here is the deal:
Margaret Cho is in town.
I personally think she is hilarious (and I promise I am not a militant feminist) and obviously am not the only one:
The first two shows sold out
and a third one has been added on April 11th at Warner Theatre.
It will run you 28 to 45 bucks to go.
But, fear not…
We have not one, not two, but THREE PAIRS OF TICKETS to give away to that April 11th show and all you have to do is post a comment below telling me just how deep your love for Margaret runs.
Winners will be notified by Thursday 8 am.
Cool?
Ice cold.
ooh, way to distance yourself from those kee-razy feminists!
ms. cho is fantastic. i love her bit about being cast in stereotypical asian roles - “i can’t run up a wall!!”
(ps, i remember “all american girl” too. it sucked. poor thing. all the network execs could concentrate on was how “fat” she was - meanwhile, the show blew but could have been saved if people just had gotten to fucking work on it.)
April 7, 2008 at 1:50 pm“They should have just called Charlie’s Angels ‘… and then there’s the ho’ because in every group of three girlfriends, there’s the smart one, the sweet one, and then there’s the ho. ”
My sister and I have been reciting that line for 15 years now.
April 7, 2008 at 1:57 pmbooked her and met her in college
she’s awesome
don’t need tix
I work for two interpreting agencies. One was going to give me the gig to interpret for the Sunday show, but they didn’t get the contract. The other agency gave the job to someone else, and so I have been thwarted not once but TWICE to get to see (and interpret) the show.
I was thrilled to bring my pal who turned me on to the powerhouse that is Cho with me to the preview, but because I didn’t get the job, I couldn’t make his effing LIFE by taking him to see it.
I’ve got some serious blue…hands for not getting to work alongside her greatness, and I could make my friend’s crappy month (including a downer of a birthday) turn into a blowout if I could surprise him with the tickets. He was so sad when I told him we weren’t going. So very, very sad.
April 7, 2008 at 3:20 pmAnd I want to go to the market to buy a chicken head but I have no money to see Margaret Cho so I have to sell my finger.
April 7, 2008 at 3:58 pmI’d like to take this opp to post one of only two pictures my parents sent me from their recent trip to China:

Margaret Cho is not very funny. Sorry.
April 7, 2008 at 5:25 pmAHH! I LOVE her!! My roommate and I watched “I’m the one that I want” a million times in college.
“If I’m talking to a guy who’s straight, and cute, and single, I’m like “Are you a unicorn??”"
I would LOVE tickets!
April 7, 2008 at 6:00 pmEveryone, minus loser Jeff Jetton up above had great comments. I just love her and appreciate her. I’ve never seen her live, just on DVD and her t.v. show. Please pick me??? :)
April 7, 2008 at 6:45 pmBecause I, like The Notorious C.H.O., am a gay man stuck in a woman’s body. She is my moon goddess.
April 7, 2008 at 8:49 pm“I’m not gay, I’m not straight, I’m just slutty- where’s MY parade?!”
Words to live by. I totally worship at the alter of Cho.
April 7, 2008 at 10:52 pmone of my dearest friends in school looked just, just like margaret cho. kim was such a sweet, thoughtful and generous kid. she loved to paint and write. and, for whatever reason, the poor thing was made fun of on a daily basis. sure, she wasn’t conventionally attractive, but she was unjustly picked on. i defended her. but we all know how cruel kids can be, and in large numbers, it can be downright overwhelming. when “all american girl” started playing on abc about that time (i was but a wee one in grade school), she suddenly became the most popular girl in class. it was strange, it was coincidental, it was superficial. but i’ll never forget seeing kim walk with a boost of confidence down the corridors of our school, amid the budding neighborhood lolitas and mean girls. i was proud of her for something so silly as looking a certain way and using that to her advantage. but at the time, at our age, everything seemed to balance out for a pleasant while for kim. and dammit, she deserved it. of course, the inevitable happened: margaret’s show was canceled. and things reverted to the way they were before the notorious c.h.o. provided the key to some of kim’s acceptance and happiness. . it was so refreshing to see, for a minute, albeit a brief one, kim gilette at the center of attention. margaret cho helped make that possible. not sure if this story deserves tickets, but that’s my two cents.
April 8, 2008 at 12:44 amCale’s parents did not send that picture from China. That is a picture of his parents wearing Chinese souvenir hats in front of their own fireplace, which judging from the style and objects on the mantle appears to be situated somewhere between Virginia and Georgia. Without visible proof of context, eg standing on the Great Wall, they might as well be wearing hats from their trip to Chinatown or Epcot Center. Will they be voting for McCain or Obama?
True story, I got drilled by an Indo-Pak cashier at 7-11 2AM about my Asianness this weekend. (He thought I was Korean.) Next day I got semi-drilled and then sold on the same subject by a cashier at everyone’s favorite chain food store that is not WF. (She thought I was Japanese.) I thought she was just being chatty like 7-11 dude until asked for my name as she handed me my bags. I was thrown for a loop and she started bagging the next customer’s items. I punted. She is cute. What would you have done? Should I go back same time this week?
Let me wallow in Asian-Americanness a bit more please. Will I make Yeasayer in time after the Cho show??
April 8, 2008 at 1:45 amI referred to one of my Asian friends as “oriental” the other day, and now she is very upset.
I was going to purchase some fried rice for her, but I think these tickets would be a better remedy.
April 8, 2008 at 11:40 amI would love Margaret Cho tix because I am an American dating a Chinese girl, and she LOVES Margaret Cho (has been telling me about the show for like 5 months now, and didn’t get tix). Major cool points if I showed up with them! That probably sounds kind of lame, but it would also be something cool we could share together :)

I almost got sad when I saw the show was on March 10, given that March 10 has passed. I guess I’m not the only one who is surprised that it’s April already.
That being said, I remember when Margaret Cho had a TV show - sometime back in the 90s. I think the fact that I saw episodes of that show, even though it was only one sadly canceled season, means that I should get some free ticket goodness.
:-)
