Ticket Giveaway: Grizzly Bear

Ticket Giveaway: Grizzly Bear

August 6, 2008 by Svetlana Send to a Friend Send to a Friend

After almost a year away from us (last time they played that sold out 930 club show with Feist, right?) Grizzly Bear is back to play DC their new album and we personally could not be more excited. I mean, just check them out live on Letterman:

It all goes down this upcoming Monday, the 11th @ The Sixth & I Synagogue
and
while the tickets are 16.5 (in advance) or 18.5 (at the door)
we have 3 pairs to give away
cause we love you like that.

Tell us what your favorite Grizzly Bear song is or why you love Grizzly Bear or why you need free tickets more than the next person and well….they just may be yours.

We will let the winners know by Friday at noon.
GOOOOO.

Knife, especially the various remixes.

I’m afraid they will be rambling in concert like Animal Collective or Silver Mt Zion. I’m happy to have your free tickets to prove me wrong.

Ming. They are not rambling. In fact they’re quite captivating. I saw them open for TV on the Radio a couple of years ago after first hearing Yellow House and being then unimpressed. After seeing the show, though, I gained a whole new appreciation for the album. I saw them again at the Black Cat on their own tour and again they were mesmerizing. They don’t seem to just play their music so much as summon it out of the atmosphere.

“Deep Blue Sea” is always gorgeous.

I like to play it whenever I feel that I’ve seen too much concrete for the day.

Robin Says:

Grizzly Bear played my neighbor’s basement in college, but I was stuck upstairs listening to my friend cry about her damn boyfriend so I missed all but one song. Then I bought tickets for the 9:30 show, but I got held up and only caught one song again. I need to see a whole show–if you give me tickets I promise to make it there on time.

R Says:

I feel what Michael’s feeling. Some of my friends are leaving for college, some are not, but whatever our position we won’t be able to see each other for a long time after these days in August. I love them and I am going to miss them. Love is worth something, isn’t it?
Thanks.

Poor Robin -above - who missed the show in her basement went on to set up my band with her same neighbors college band- starting Junior League off to a great Grizzly-esque associated beginning in Seattle. Now a po’ musician in the studio all month and tired, I could use a killer show for some inspiration and relaxation- and I’ll take Robin!

I’ve never asked for a giveaway before because I felt that there were others who needed them more than I. But I realize that I really need your help this time.

It all started with this one kid. This kid with dreads. I met this kid in jazz band. He played bass. He had amazing chops. He had an open mind. And he loved me. It was everything I could ever want…

Then I met his sister.

She was everything I never wanted. Cute, happy… I could never understand what was going through her head. Thus began a yearlong cycle of love, hate, and just about everything else I couldn’t understand.

But this is it. This is perfect! It’s Grizzly Bear! She can’t refuse to go if I told her I had an extra! I mean, unless her brother wanted to go…

…Crap.

Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea… Sigh.

Will I ever get to be with kid with dreads’ sister?

I want you to know,
when I look in your eyes,
nothing I can say when I’m in your thighs.
Makes you want to feel, makes you want to try,
Makes you want you to give the tix to this guy.
Piece of dirt, that is all I’m standing on today
I have an intense crush on the singer who is gay.
I am a patient boy, I wait I wait I I wait.
Hoping that BYT will deliver me a Monday night date.

“lullabye,” because it makes me wish I were a child or something… seriously though… I want those tickets because my friends just submitted to this contest and I know his greedy ass won’t be taking me if he wins, so I need to cover my bases. and just so you know, if he wins and I don’t, I’m liable to do something rash… like grovel at his feet so that he ends up taking me.. and I really don’t want to do that. I have too much pride.

Let Ming have those tickets.

That is all.
