Brightest Young Things

Black Lips are probably one of the best shows to see live if you're into rock, sweatiness, and more rock. And I mean, WHO ISN'T?

This time around stopping by our parts, they're not in DC, but in Baltimore, this upcoming Friday (all pertinent details can be found here) but the kind folks at SONAR understand that you still want to go, so we have a pair of tickets to giveaway. With maybe a meet-n-greet thrown in? BUT DEFINITELY A PAIR OF TICKETS.

Tell us what your favorite live show you saw last year was and they could be yours.
We'll let the winner know by 9am Friday Morning.

My favorite show of last year was actually a Black Lips show at the Black Cat. Maybe it was the opener that made it, but Quintron & Miss Pussycat, who I have never seen live before and will never forget, were absolutely BADASS. Swamp Buggy Badass.
I've seen Black Lips many time before, but honestly, one more time couldn't hurt.

The best show that I saw last year was Girl Talk at Sonar. I would love to revisit the scene. I also enjoyed the hell out of Quintron and Miss Pussycat this past year at Saturn Bar in NOLA.

Alas, I have never seen the Black Lips and the 19th is MY BIRTHDAY!!! (Not to be a brat or anything...)

Spank Rock and PoPo are playing this too... it's quite a bill.

AND Spank Rock is doing a crazy on stage collaboration with NINJA SONIK. This is like the craziest show of the summer (now That the TAX LO SUMMER PARTY is done).

POPO is my favorite band, by the by.

DC, come on down!

It's got to be the time I went to Chicago with my friends for Lollapalooza and saw Rage Against the Machine. It's was the most ridiculous time I've ever had. Before we went to Grant Park for the those 3 phenomenal days, we pregamed to the face, but enough to remember the shows. Black Keys, Cool Kids, Raconteurs, Girl Talk, Radiohead, and Rage were all there. They were all sick, but Rage takes the cake. There were twice maybe thrice more people there than Obama's election night. The whole park was one huge mosh pit. People were jumping and yelling madly. Tom Morello and Tim Commerland were tearing it up. It was wild. Zack de la Rocha even had to take a moment to have everyone step back because people in the front were getting swarmed. Couldn't have been a better show. Good times

Best show I saw last year was easily Ghostland Observatory at 9:30.

They had Pink Floyd's lighting guy do the show and the effects were out of this world.

Not to mention about half of the crowd was wearing capes and other ridiculous costumes. made for one hell of a dance party.

Definitely Girl Talk at Loyola College in their gym. It was a sweat box, although it was weird that I was the oldest person there. (I'm not that old...).

Although seeing See-I, SOLA and the Wailers back to back to back at Artscape 2008 was pretty cool too.

hopefully this doesn't disqualify me, but honestly best show last year is a tie:: Seeing My Morning Jacket on NewYearsEve at Madison Square Gardens was pretty surreal, especially seeing it with the love of my life.

But i also saw the best thing ever when Paint It Black played for ~300 kids in a parking lot at midnight out of the back of a U-Haul w/ a generator at the gainesville FEST, despite the cops on horses circling the crowd of drunk kids in ridiculous halloween costumes. punk fucking rock.

Definitely Justice at Sonar. I fractured 2 ribs. It was great.

Had to be Dan Deacon at the Hirshhorn. Loud, so sweaty, dancing, knocking over the socialite's expensive drinks! Plus, I got to look at tons of rad art after!

But after all I've heard about Black Lips' shows, I'm anticipating that this one will rein supreme (will be my first Black Lip show!)

Ahh Radiohead last year in that torrential rain storm. Shitty traffic, bad weather but everything was worth it. The way the rain seemed to pour harder during the rain down part in paranoid android might have been the most surreal thing ever
