Ticket Giveaway: A Very Special Moneytown Feat. Prince Paul

August 11, 2009 by Svetlana

This upcoming Saturday, Moneytown migrates to DC9 for a very special edition (of the always good dance party) featuring PRINCE PAUL (of Handsome Boy Modelling School etc fame).

Its going to be awesome. Use this quote from RAZOR & TIE as a motivation:

Fellow innovator Steve ‘Steinski’ Stein called this man “the closest thing hip hop has to a genius”. By the age of ten, Prince Paul’s pals were comparing him to Grandmaster Flash. He had to convince them otherwise, and has been challenging people’s preconceptions about hip hop ever since: from his scratches in Stetsasonic to his groundbreaking production with De La Soul and Handsome Boy Modelling School, as well as his solo productions. Heads should take note that rebellion and money were never the focus – even hip hop itself wasn’t the focus. “The focus, that was always the music.”

Princess Paulette Says:

Prince Paul is one of my favorite DJs ever. He DJed one of the best parties I’ve ever been to. It was like 7 or 8 years ago in NYC, and I still remember it. Me Myself and I is probably my favorite track he produced. I can’t explain why. It is just hip hop goodness.

my favorite track is off of his solo album A prince among thieves, the track with Big Daddy kane is funny, and the intro is so hilarious the track is called Macula’s Theory…

“Change in Speak” on De La’s “Three Feet High and Rising”. One of the most clever and memorable tracks on an all-time classic album.

I’m a huge Prince Paul fan. I’ve been a fan of everything from the Gravediggaz (fave track “1-800 Suicide”), Stetsasonic (”In Full Gear” was my sh*t!), De La Soul (ALL of “3 Feet High”) and Handsome Boy Modeling School (hard to choose, but I think both of the albums were hilarious). If I had to pick a favorite Prince Paul song, it would probably be “Pen and Paper” by Stetsasonic. Stet was one of the earliest “hip hop bands” (if not the first) and made a huge impression on me as a youth. There would be no Roots if it weren’t for Stet!
