Targeted at Young People

Targeted at Young People

July 29, 2008 by Svetlana Send to a Friend Send to a Friend

I am plucking this from Gawker and was going to run it in “Rise and Shine” but decided to give it a classy post of itself, especially since everyone and their mother has been talking (smack) about it.

MoveOn Goes “Viral” With Gross Pro-Obama Valtrex Ad
(as written by DC alum Alex Pareene)

This pro-Obama ad is about how “hope” is a lot like a sexually transmitted disease. It is designed to reach to the Youngs, all of whom have herpes, especially in Brooklyn. It is by MoveOn.org. In order to make sure it appeals to those cold-sored 20-somethings, it feeds their bullshit pop culture nostalgia by featuring a guy who was on Boy Meets World and a lady from that vampire show. It will be the very first political ad ever to appear on Comedy Central where it is sure to convince to all those post-racial young Larry the Cable Guy and Carlos Mencia fans to vote for Senator Obama.

+ wonkette’s take on it

Are you Laughing or Are You Dying (on the Inside, from the shame that this is what is being resorted to to reach out to your demographic)?

That commercial is stupid. I hope Obama loses. I also hope McCain loses. I hope people realize they’re both douchebags and refuse to vote. 0 votes cast in 2008 would be so amazingly awesome.

But people are sheeple so my hopes will be dashed.

Yes it was me, and yes both of them are douchebags. We lose this time, America - it’s continuing a great tradition of losing for the past 8 years.

No votes will definitely turn this ship around!

I should add that not all of the past 8 years are the fault of Mr. President - the Dems ran on a program of “change” a few years ago, the AmPub bought it, put them in charge of the House AND the Senate and they’ve done not shit but run around reveling in their new power. Fuck American politics and anyone who believes that one party is any different from the other.

Wow Says:

Yeah - holy crap. Good no vote comment, you douchebag.

Eddie - well as a DC resident (like me) fortunately you don’t have to suffer the sickening feeling in your stomach that you’d feel casting a vote for either one of these corporate knob slobbers. Given we use the electoral college rather than the popular vote, and given that DC goes 90% for the Democrat nominee in every election, you can in good faith write in yourself (or me), or Mickey Mouse and it won’t make a dime’s worth of difference. I’m voting for whomever will bring me a nice bland lunch because I’m still in bed with a hangover.
