Nap Time

Nap Time

July 13, 2008 by Meg Z Send to a Friend Send to a Friend

Why is it so hard to sleep on Sunday night? Seriously, almost every single one of my friends has this problem. We are all so damn tired from the weekend, but can’t sleep to save our lives. So instead you just lay in bed, wide-awake, freaking out about how tired you are going to be at work on Monday. Worst.Feeling.Ever.

You can call it what you want… post-weekend blues, pre-work week stress, total mental psych-out. But anyway you name it… it still leads to a very groggy Monday morning with one extremely necessary trip to Starbucks for a venti drip with three extra shot of espresso in it.

I did a little investigating, and it turns out help may be closer than that bottle of sleeping pills resting on your bedside table. Teaism carries a tisane adequately named Quiet Evening. Made of chamomile (my mom’s favorite sleep remedy), peppermint and rose hips, not only does it calm the nerves, it relaxes your muscles and cures headaches. I sort of love it already.

After you are done sipping your tea, slip on a Lights Out Sleep Mask. While I will admit, they look a little more deep space than sleep chic, these ultra-lightweight and uber-soft masks block out light and are specially molded to allow Rapid Eye Movement, allowing you slip deep into la la land and stay there.

And for those real serious insomniacs, check out the Tranquil Moments Sound Therapy sleep machine at Brookstone. It uses five nature soundscapes and seven engineered sounds developed by the Center of Neuroacoustic Research that are supposed to have you asleep in no time. This thing is no joke at all. Personally, I would rather listen to a little Beck or Max Richter to fall asleep, but I sort of really want someone to go buy one and tell me what it is like.

Ok, ready, set, sleep!
