Japan! (in DC)

Starting today and for the next 2 weeks Kennedy Center is putting on what can only be described as a “Japan Bonanza”.
This is what their press info has to say about the Japan! (gotta love random exclamation! pointing) Hyperculture festival:

In the Land of the Rising Sun, ancient traditions are layered with modern sensibility and technological innovation to create culture… accelerated. This “hyperculture” encompasses a wide range of expression - from the wizardry of robots and the dazzling action of anime to the hypnotic movement of butoh and the propulsive energy of taiko.

Over two weeks, the Kennedy Center brings together more than 450 artists, more than 40 performances, and more than a dozen free events to showcase the best Japanese theater and dance, music and fashion, architecture and sculpture, poetry and literature, photography and film.

eeeeeeexciting, right?

Now, there is no way we can actually list all 40 performances here but click on here for more info on:

+ theater!
(including Mari Natsuki’s The Impressionist 08 which looks amazing and odd and amazingly odd)

+ dance!

+ robots!!
Including the sure to be informative (and attended by Cale) Guided Tour of Robotopia Rising with Tim Hornyak author of Loving the Machine: The Art and Science of Japanese Robots

+ anime!
inscluding the marathon featuring screening on the 17th of three new anime features: 5 Centimeters Per Second, The Piano Forest, and Appleseed: Ex Machina.

and of course,

+free events!!! (3, count ‘em three exclamation points there) Which actually is OUTSTANDING with anything from dance to lectures to a Harajuku Day for the Miss Stefani in you.

plus, a comprehensive daily schedule of fun available till the 17th here
