I’m pleased to report that I have every single track thus far requested packed and ready to roll tomorrow night. Although, I really can’t stand that Sublime song, and Ima gonna leave Barbie Girl for Brian Billion to play. I called “Walking On Broken Glass” though.

Come on people, is this as original as you can get?

July 17, 2008 at 7:59 pm
Will Says:

Well, Michael, lay something original on us.

Michael Says:

Well I did post on the other section devoted to this night a question of whether this was to be hip-hop based or, I suppose at the risk of being Mousetrap-esque, whether some of the brilliance of the 1990s Brit-pop scene would be offered. And you do know my tastes, Will.

I was just pushing for others to offer up something better than what’s been offered thus far. No names, but “Groove is in the Heart”? Like that’s not played at every dance night in existence already…

Without being completely unoriginal you could pull from the lesser known Blur tracks, or Ash, Doves, Ocean Colour Scene, Suede, Catherine Wheel, Saint Etienne, Cornershop, Stereolab, Bluetones, Rialto, Gene, Elastica, Manic Street Preachers, Curve…

You could also go harder and pull from NIN, Front 242 or any of the Wax Trax! Black Box sampler from the 1990s.

I mean it’s the Cat, it’s all ages. People will dance to anything.

Will Says:

Hey Michael, here’s the description I wrote and you’ll find some artists you like in there. And you know I like all the bands you mentioned, except Ocean Colour Scene. They were lame. And, no, I will not play “Common People” for you. ;)

“This is your chance to exercise your guilty, or guilt-free, pleasure groove to TLC, Bell Biv Devoe, Nirvana, Happy Mondays, Boyz II Men, C&C Music Factory, EMF, Marky Mark, Suede, House of Pain, Arrested Development, Coolio, Oasis, Spice Girls, Alanis Morissette, Stereo MC’s, The Breeders, 2 Unlimited, Kid ‘N Play, Color Me Badd, KLF, Crystal Waters, The La’s, Wreckx-N-Effect and everyone 90’s!”

And Grove Is In the Heart gets dropped so often because it’s awesome!

July 18, 2008 at 8:23 am
Michael Says:

Yeah, well descriptions are one thing, actually following through without giving in to a bevy of musical know-nothings repeatedly asking for Coolio and Boyz II Men is another - ;)

And I didn’t even mention Pulp!

I now remember the reason I ended up holing up in Industrial clubs in the 1990’s - the music being played most everywhere else truly sucked.

Michael Says:

P.S. Grove is in the heart? Are you from a family of Floridian citrus growers? ;)

One can’t go wrong with some Utah Saints, Soup Dragons, Stone Roses, or Ned’s Atomic Dustbin, either. Also New Order.

Hahahaha, I wrote that at 8 a.m. WAY too early for this night owl. You’ll get your britpop and indie, Michael, don’t worry.
