++++thanks for participating yall and congratulations to the winners!+++++
omg so apparently the band on jimmy fallon is like a real band? and they're like playing at the 930 club? weird0.
i've never like heard of them (and like i don't really listen to rap what with the violent lyrics? and the lack of thoughtful content? and the fact that they dont play real instruments?) but if you want to go see them we've got 8 tickets,2 pairs for each show (one is Tuesday, and one is Wednesday) of theirs next week? and but so i googled them and saw that they made the funniest meta-video of all time?
so reply in the comments with your favorite music video meta-parody video and we'll meta-hook you up?!
p.s. please make note which show night you'd rather go to

Wednesday night please
Sarah Silverman's "F***ing Matt Damon" was a phenomenon. So Jimmy Kimmel's "F***ing Ben Affleck" was the super-group of meta-parodies. The cameos from Brad Pitt, Harrison Ford, and a few dozen other celebs -- brilliant.
(I would rather go Wednesday)
It's kind of lame now, but when Tenacious D's Tribute video came out, I strained something laughing so hard.
It parodied everything from Kansas to the Charlie Daniels Band and back again. I'm not gonna lie, it still makes me giggle.
Tuesday would be my preference.
Wed. please!
how about "i believe in a thing called love" by the darkness:
wednesday please!
the least self-aware meta-parody(?):
Tuesday!!!
You haven't heard of The Roots?! Are you attempting to be ironic? Do you live in a hole?!
Btw rap does have thoughtful content, if you get away from the big names like Snoop. DOA anyone?
Has never heard of The Roots. Does not live in a hole.
Remember, anyone, when rap was about struggling and being broke and po and fish was your favorite dish but without the money it was still a wish? When did it suddenly become all about money and hos and fake-assed diamonds and rented Bentleys by the hour to shoot a video so it looks like you're rich even though no one has ever heard of you and you're shooting your first video? (Note: the preceeding paragraph not about The Roots, but most rap.)
(Note: the preceeding paragraph not about The Roots, but most rap.)
and what would you know about "most" rap?

best thing out there till the full raaaaaaaandy mixtape drops in february.
i'll gratefully take any night
wed night
Rasheed - uh, I have ears and listen to things? In addition to music-color synesthesia I also have a phonographic memory and retain the vast majority of everything I hear - whether listening to it at home alone or just standing on a street corner.
Or were you making some kind of comment that because I'm a white dude that put up 5 days of country songs last week that I couldn't possibly know anything about rap?
Shit, son, I still have my Whodini cassette.
Also the fact that I lamented the fact that struggle exhibited in the lyrics of early rap music is missing and replaced instead by the "everyone's a pimp, everyone's rich, everyone drives a Bentley and everyone has legions of Hos" ethos that is prevalent today. I guess that would indicate I know a little bit about rap, even if I'm just some redneck from Georgia.
any night. and i'm pretty sure the writer was being sarcastic about the roots...
Bowie's in space. "I'm pulled in by its groovitational pull."
either
Anything by Foo Fighters or Beastie Boys is bound to be very post-modern, but I need some Roots tickets so let me give my shout out to with LMFAO's Miami and its absurdly self-aware music video:
@ Michael Yeah my comment was on your generalization, no matter how good your memory is or what colors you see when you hear anything, the fact of the matter is no human knows anything about "most" of anything... you do not have the time, white, green whatever.
All you gotta see is the one The Roots were biting off of: http://www.mtv.com/videos/de-la-soul/8448/ego-trippin-part-2.jhtml
The subtitles are great, and the samples are also reminders of the motif of fake ass mc's. Also, @Michael, just like all commercial music, commercial rap is sorry and it's all about materialsim, but there's still tons of stuff out there that isn't and that is good and that is about downt to earth stuff like girls and fish and going to a friend's house where the food just ain't no good.
And I'll take tix to any show any night! As a teacher on Xmas vacation, I am free!
Rasheed - that is fair. I accept that.
This is a great one, and I'm pretty sure it was at its popularity peak around the holidays so it's got nostalgia going for it. Enjoy! (I'd be happy with tickets either night)
This is special:
any night
I think we all know Daft Punk "One More Time" is the best video of all time:
ummm a) what the frickkkkkk is a 'meta-parody video'
b) i wanna see the rooooooooooots so does this count?!
BYT ROCKS!! happy twenty-ten
I know this is not quite as funny as the others -- but I didn't want to solely select something that has already been selected.
Either night would be amazing!
This is bomb! Wednesday FTW
I am going with:
I love the roots. I'd prefer the Tuesday show.
well the thing is......being the roots fan that i am THIS is my favorite meta-parody video! "Never do what they do!" lol
and tuesday night preferably, but wednesday works as well
I'd love to go to Tuesdays show! My Fave Meta Video is E. Badu's" Honey"
By far the funniest rap meta-video (and one of the first) was Beastie Boys Fight for your Right
Would LOVE to see the Roots (can't believe you never heard of them), but I'm not from DC so hope someone else wins the Tixreally, is there any other "parody" better than flight of the conchords' take on david bowie? the "how far out are you, man?" "i'm pretty far out." "that's pretty far out, man." interchange alone is amazing.
prefer tuesday
Funnies rap meta-MOVIE was CB4 with Chris Rock. If you haven't seen it you're missing out on a lot of laughs. Rap/Hip Hop version of "This is Spinal Tap"
fatboy slim- weapon of choice
just for fun, the worst cover ever:
Tuesday night would be great
Does this count as meta?
http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/451fba17e0/cant-tell-me-nothin-from-zach-galifianakis
If not, I gotta put in a vote for this amazingness!
This one's easy:
Armand Van Helden and A-Trak's music video for "aNYway"...
Emulates all the old-school soul performances on shows like Soul Train, Midnight Special, etc. Classic gold!
Either day would be cool...
Ow and I'll take either night ... just HOOK. ME. UP!
Jesus parodying anything is funny to me!!
Wednesday is cool!
The roots are the truth!! I can't wait till the new album comes out!!
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5kyog_weezer-pork-and-beans_music
either night would be awesome
Harder, Better, Barack Obamer
(Kanye spoof of "Stronger")
No preference on tickets, any day is fine.
im on a boat!! sesame style parody of sl parody of ery rapper on a boat...
tuesday <3
**correction hehe
im on a boat!! sesame style parody of snl [saturday night live] parody of ery rapper on a boat…
tuesday <3
People Under the Stairs- Trippin at the Disco
look at how Double K holds his microphone. HI-larious.
Lemme get that grand prize. Thanks.
I don't need tix, I just wanted to use one of ?uestlove's favorite verbs and point out that Rasheed got "sonned" by Michael up top.
no wai phelpsy, if anything, michael got laid-out flatter than me at Bliss this weekend
dont mess with the 'sheed, he's the professor in this particular classroom.
Not sure if this counts as a spoof per se since everybody and their mama was doing a Single Ladies video, but the Glee rendition was a win in my book. Bonus points that it was in one of the best episodes of the show.
Wednesday works better for me.
http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/clips/digital-short-im-on-a-boat/1037221/
I would take either night (but Tuesday works better for me)
Either night is good, but Tuesday is probably best. Thanks! Happy New Year!
Wednesday
I am THE biggest Roots fan PERIOD and I personally want tickets to BOTH nights, but if I must choose, I'd prefer wednesday.
A portion of my Roots collection http://twitpic.com/v66ck
But I haven't had the opportunity to actually meet them.
And while I'd love to post "What They Do" as my parody video since it's so amazingly original and epic before everybody else did it
here is my choice for GREAT parody songs > The Game Featuring Kanye West - "Wouldn't get far"
I kno it might seem weird but the things talked about in this song are parellel to the points made in What they do. Hope I win.
iLLy
@iLLProphet
Sabotage by Beastie Boys.
Wednesday
just ridiculous.
I'd love to go either day.
Peter Rosenburg throw some cheese on it. I live in dc 2 blocks from 930 club.
tuesdays cool 4 me
Wed would be awesome! I love the roots.
peter: ur comments about the roots are so over-the-top offensive that you MUST be being ironic.
the roots are brilliant musicians, and they would be offended to be pigeon-holed as "rappers" anyway. rock-rap-funk-jazz-r&b beasts that are respected throughout the music world. see you tonight at the show.
Bert and Ernie On A Boat
Sorry.....I would like Wednesday.
Anything by Weird Al especially Eat It
either day would be great
SO WHO WON THE TIXS
