Brightest Young Things

Annie Clark is so pretty and nice and insanely talented that if you didn't love her you may be inclined to hate her. We decided to take the love route:

check out my gushing phone interview after "Marry me" came out (which I had to do because all Cale could come up with questions wise was "Will you go out with me?") here:

and an equally enamored live show review here:

Fast forward to 2009 and "Actor", her eagerly anticipated (and preview streamed on NPR) album is about to roll out next week May 2nd on 4AD.

We are hosting a special preview listening party before the pandahead party @ Comet tonight (pretty, talented girls go well together) and will have a giveaway RIGHT THERE AND THEN (a raffle) to giveaway the following:

-one pair of tix to her May 22nd show in DC @ The Black Cat
-a couple LPs
-and a couple CDs

All of which 4AD will kindly mail to you.
Just when you come in, as the bartender for the entry form, and they will hand you a St.Vincent postcard on which you should write your name and email and fingers crossed, we will be in touch.
Cool?
Cool.

Comments, if particularly charming, will be also considered for awards.
So, please, comment away

I just "discovered" St. Vincent a few weeks ago and since then I've been listening to Annie Clark non-stop. She's definitely one of the most talented artists out there period.

Do yourself a favor and check out the stripped down performances she did for la blogoteque at http://www.blogotheque.net/St-Vincent,3448

My personal favorite is her reading of "these days" here:

If it doesn't move you, you're immobile.

Because I'll be in hibernation for the week leading up to and during finals, this could be a good reward to get my ears buzzing...after days of self-inflicted solitary confinement in the dreary basement of a chemistry library.

Also, because St. Vincent is one of my favorite artists because she:
1) Has a clever stage name
2) I'm jeal. of her hair? Creepy, i know.

That and along with the obvious fact that she can sing and has meaningful lyrics which go beyond the girl-like-boy-why-don't-you-like-me-back-so-sad-will-go-be-obese-now-by-eating-ben-and-jerry's lyrics.

lets just say a certain member of the laughing man stood annie up for a falafel date in New York a few years back and is seriously regretting it. going to the show could make things right again......

Everytime she says, "So sleep while I slip poison in your ear", I get the full-on-peeing-in-a-meat-locker chills.
