Giveaway: Los Campesinos! & Pash

<<<<<<< Killer show Alert >>>>>>>

Los Campesinos! <> Pash <> Aquarium @ Black Cat May 16th

Los Campesinos means “the farmers.” It’s also refers to a seven piece band from Cardiff, Wales who lots of people get amped about and happen to be playing at the Black Cat on Friday night. Los Campesinos’ press kit claims that they engage their audience “on a deeper, more unashamedly intellectual level, and challenging them to make music, fashion, art and literature mean more.” I’d just say that they’ve got some catchy, danceable tunes and they look like a mighty good time. RIOT IN THE CONTROL ROOM!!

Pash means “to make out.” Pash is also one of our favorite young bands in D.C. who are playing with Los Campesinos and Aquarium at Black Cat on Friday night. Pash have been described on this site as both “adorable” and “sexy”. After a busy first half of the year playing four shows at SXSW and touring with (Los Campesinos’ Arts and Crafts label mates) Stars and Martin Royle, Pash are going into hiding soon to work on their third album. Friday= adorably sexy rock ‘n roll.

Check out the Frequency remix of Pash’s “Kill The Rich Boys II” on their myspace. the vocal reminds a little of 70s mellow rock.

I love your site! I use it to find out what is going on around DC and feel much cooler then the rest of my office mates when I get the inevitable “what did you do this weekend?” When I can respond with, “well, I went to an art expose, a dance party, and a bitching concert” I get looks of hipster-awe and angst because they stayed home and watched two complete seasons of the Gilmore girls with their boyfriends. So thanks, thanks for making me more interesting at work.

I’m pretty sure the band members do it just to be cute, but my last name *really* is Campesinos! (including exclamation point)

A better show would be to take Tiger Army (playing in Baltimore) and pit them against Los whateverineros in a cage match in the empty lot next to the Red and Black on H St.

Dear Randy:
Watching Gilmore Girls, loving Pash and being cool are not mutually exclusive.
Thanks,
Taylor

Randy Says:

Dear Taylor,

While I agree that watching Gilmore Girls, loving Pash, and being cool are not mutually exclusive, I do feel that your level of inter-office awesomeness is built quicker saying you went to a concert and a house-party then watching two seasons of Gilmore Girls during the course of a weekend. But I guess that would depend on where you work.

Thanks,
Randy

Okay, Randy. I hear ya. Just so everyone knows though, Gilmore Girls was written by the same people who write Family Guy…it wasn’t entirely un-clever. Just sayin’…I don’t have all the DVDs at home. Really. ;)

Libby Says:

Oh so manatees also wrote Gilmore Girls? Family Guy Sucks especially since South Park revealed the writers’ true identities.

I agree that it sucks now. I won’t let it on the TV when I’m at home…but it didn’t always, right? It used to be funny?

Rory was really hot. Also, I’d eat at their diner every day- every pie I ever saw the mom serve a customer looked freaking amazing.
