For those of you who didn’t know, just over a year ago, BYT staff and friends Jason, Steve, Tim and I were banned from the Montgomery County Fair Grounds for one calendar year. I won’t go into details, but suffice to say, we were being stupid. Read about it here:

Well, to celebrate our reinstatement and the end of our ban (it’s been a long year), we’ve decided that our triumphant return to County Fair glory will involve driving a car in this year’s Demolition Derby. And we’d like all of you to join us in this spectacle.
The car was purchased for a tidy sum of $385. Here are some shots of the work that we did on her over the past week:
Full set here
Yesterday, she was painted by BYT-favorite artist Kelly Towles in what can only be described as an epic paintjob. She’s flying under the flag of Team De Nada Designs with the lucky number 7 and Kelly has dubbed her ‘the stache’. Paintjob pics are forthcoming.
Barring any complications, I’ll be driving on Saturday, August 16th at 8pm. Please come join us.
Admission is $8 to the fair, and then an additional $10 for the Derby (if you use promotion code DM08 or this coupon)

And if you’ve never seen a Demolition Derby before, just watch this video from youtube:
P.S. Our friends from Flying Dog Brewery are bringing their Flying Dog Ale Winnebago down from their brewery in Frederick, MD. Look for it somewhere near the fairgrounds. There will most likely be free beer inside!
What is happening to the car in these pics?

August 14, 2008 at 1:27 pmnow *this* is hilarious and awesome. you should have gotten a bigger boat, though (’73 ford LTD, anyone?). that mid-sized domestic may just get pulverized. looks like it’s gonna be fun, though. good luck, boys. wear hockey gear.
August 14, 2008 at 1:47 pmGood luck fellas. Any of you guys have a tig welder btw? Any experience welding stainless?
Also I always wanted a demo car and I’d remove the bumpers and install some railroad tracks cut to fit. You’d have to install some heavy-duty shocks, but it would be unstoppable.

August 14, 2008 at 2:18 pmholy shit, what a great idea. would they allow that, though? there must be a rule that says steel reinforcement may not surpass a certain thickness.
August 14, 2008 at 2:18 pmIt certainly looks like a TIG welder -
