Just did a sound check the garage. They could hear it on the 4th floor.

So yeah, it sounds pretty good.

The VJ is setting up down there now.

BYT owes me $50... Most sober NYE ever!

2 years ago empath said

It did kinda suck about the open bar, but that's more the hotels fault and not BYT's so much. I think they probably will handle that better at the next one.

2 years ago Bill said

BYT is Spanish for Bridge y Tunnel. When/where is the makeup open bar?

2 years ago Nato said

Disast. BYT owes me an open bar! Would never repeat the experience or go to a BYTNYE again

2 years ago nate said

I stayed and after midnight the drinks were flowing

2 years ago Laura said

We had a brilliant time and I thought BYT did an awesome job, especially considering this was their first ever NYE party. Thanks!

2 years ago spiggy said

I have to say in the fifteen years I've been DJ'ing and involved in parties. All the various New Year's Eve parties I've done. This was by far the most insane NYE party I've been involved with. Mad props to BYT for hooking this up.

2 years ago Lucy said

Amazing time - great party, friendly security, awesome sound in every room. Sure there were some lines for booze but find me an open bar in DC that doesn't have a wait. Anyway - good job with the event and happy new year!

2 years ago money back said

don't believe their hype, party blowed, everyone was pissed, no one got any alcohol , it was bullshit

2 years ago empath said

I gotta be honest. The kind of people who would get pissed off about not being able to get drunk enough on NYE are not the kind of people I'd want at my party anyway. It was those kinds of douchebags that were getting into fist fights in the hotel afterwards. Didn't you have some frat party to go to?

2 years ago lol said

If you didn't have the common sense to know that $45 wasn't going to get you shitty drunk in a crowd of 2,000 people, consider it a cheap lesson learned. Always bring a plan B(ottle). 'Open Bar' means the drinks will be free, it doesn't mean that each bar will have 8 bartenders. BYT did a great job staffing the party from their side, the DJs were great, and the night was epic in proportion. Can't wait to do it again next year.

2 years ago Hipster Douchebag said

Lines for the open bar were ridiculous and once you made it to the bar - one drink. Real accommodating. Every room (except for one, which we didn't find) had the same music, same beat, same spaz out techno mess. The elevator scene was a disaster until people wised up and started propping the ground floor outside doors for people to come in and out of their room (granted, this was not BYT's fault, hotel design - go figure). But this was problematic for some time b/c it was the ONLY place to get alcohol. Only thing that saved this party was the people we came with. For those who enjoyed it - great, you can all ring in next year with one another b/c all in all - it was a mess in every aspect and I'll never dump any money on a mass BYT event ever again...sh*t sucked!

2 years ago empath said

you have no idea what techno is.

new years eve is amateur hour ...

2 years ago t said

Seems like there were 2 types of people that attended this event:
~those that know that events like this require input from the attendees themselves, who know that it's never going to be quite how they imagined it in their mind beforehand and plan / adapt accordingly. These people generally know how to have a good time and most likely quite enjoyed this event.

~and there are the people that need the party to come to them and let things like crowded elevators and long booze lines ruin their evening. These people were generally miserable at the party. Too bad.

Anyway, I had a great time getting down w/ everyone -- I'd do this again - tonight if it were an option. Thanks.

epath and lol, I left and just went to a restaurant got some nice champagne and some food and rung it in happily.

It's my fault, I was expecting a music video and I got a middle school dance

2 years ago weak said

8 bartenders for 2k people is terrible. In the 4 hours I was there I only managed to get two drinks, averaging out to $22.50 a piece. half hour in line for coat check and 40 mins in line for the bar, come on.

great idea, great marketing, poor execution. next year, get low end liquor and let it flow more freely - the revenue will net out the same for BYT and we'll finally be able to get even marginally buzzed in time for midnight.

2 years ago Eric the Bastard said

Well, i have to admit, the drink lines before 12 were redonculous (and I am no amateur), but it lightened up after 12. I was able to drink my fill. I ended up having a good time. Had a great time with the gays in the front room. Also, I expected better things out of the hotel room afterparties. My highlights were:

Quote: "My pants are soaked in pussy juice, wanna touch"?

Sandstorm played non-ironically.

Empath spinning full on hardcore rave, and

dumb ass fights in the hallways.

2 years ago empath said

I would like to point out that it was not me that played sandstorm non-ironically. I would never play sandstorm.

I did play cafe del mar, though.

...and the privileged and entitled run their cockholsters yet again...

Everyone knows that open bars suck. Everyone knows this. E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E. They are merely a bonus, they should never be the raison d'etre for attending any event. People really expected to pay $45 for an all-night event with DJs and all the other shit and still somehow manage to get sloppily wasted drunk with free liquor? Really?

Here's a lesson for the next time you go to an open-bar event on the biggest party night of the entire fucking year, at a venue where you know there will be close to (or more than) Two Thousand People all looking for the same free drinks you are trying to suck down:

bring a flask. Or sneak in your own bottle. Drink from it as you're waiting in line (if you must) for your bonus free drinks. Or pre-drink. Or stop fucking whining about having to pay $45 (cheapest in the city) to have your run of an entire place with 2000 other people partying and celebrating and sucking down their drinks and getting right back in line in order to suck down another one because they only way they can have fun is to be plastered.

Did you not get the message about it selling out? Did you not expect to have to wait in line because a couple thousand other people are also as piss-poor in the Planning Department as yourselves?

You coddled babysat instant gratification whiny shitbaskets can throw your own party next time. Make it better. Spend months and months planning something just because you want people to have a good time...

Nah, just show up same time next year crying because your hand wasn't held and your taint not gently massaged the entire night...

2 years ago lol said

I'm just glad we live in a country where we can all nurse our hangovers and then come argue about how good the party was on the internet.

USA! USA! USA!

On a serious note, it does suck that anyone had a bad time. Next year bring a bottle, split it with a couple of friends and you'll still pay less than most of the other parties around town, but with better music and better looking girls to hit on.

This is Simon's set from 12-1am. (The only ACTUAL techno set of the night, as far as I know).

2 years ago lame said

not even a countdown at midnight? waste.

2 years ago Simon said

There was - On the microphone via Spiggy, but it was running from a different mixer, so it wasn't actually recorded unfortunately

2 years ago RAVE CAMP DJ Dan Amitai said

WTF Simon you don't have Ed's shit recorded? Thumbs down.

2 years ago Mike said

yeah, the lines were bad, but as many have said, it was an open bar on new year's eve, not LDP in August, so that's to be expected. thanks to one of the bartenders who was giving out multiple drinks, i got maybe 7 weed and waters) for probably an hour total in line, not bad at all, and it was my choice to spend my time that way and not sneak in a flask or pregame.

the vibe was kickin, and the music was solid. more people in costume would have been even better.

overall, great jam. and since we didn't book a room, had to get busy in the parking lot face-wink

Dan, I will cut you.

No midnight countdown?

Shit... not only was there a midnight countdown in the garage, but I was pouring Dom into people's mouths afterwards: http://www.utopium.net/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=186398

2 years ago Cale said

I led the countdown in the space room and sprayed foam on everybody, Katie Balloons did the countdown in the Fatback room complete with, you guessed it, balloons.

2 years ago spiggy said

So then there was a countdown in every room. Then I'm not sure where the thought of no countdown came from.

2 years ago Simon said

No, they were just stating that the garage countdown was not recorded into my set. I was bummed about that too, but it was just the way it was wired to avoid feedback on the sound system. But you people are resourceful!!! You can just scream the count down yourself as all the way up until the break drops!face-grin

2 years ago spiggy said

On one hand, I feel we should have seen about recording from the soundboard in order to get the full experience of the night. On the other, I wouldn't want my ass detracting from what an awesome set that was on repeated listenings.
