CAN's "I Want More" or anything by A Certain Ratio. Uh, also, I hate to be that guy, but it's Pat Mahoney, not Mohoney.

These are joke requests, right?

4 years ago John Foster said

Taking the Can request to the next degree hows about some Moonshake? "Sweetheart" or "Exotic Siren Song" will do. No tix - I just want someone to play Moonshake. I am easy that way.

4 years ago Cale said

Can clears the floor. Trust me, I've tried. This isn't We Fought The Big One. Also, here is a mix I posted a while back with !!!'s Must Be The Moon:

http://www.brightestyoungthings.com/byt-recommends/promo-tool-for-tool-party/

which also never goes over well. I don't think the ladies like dancing to !!!.

Just go with "Blister In The Sun" and be done with it... or any other Violent Femmes song or, better yet, really terrible covers of Violent Femmes songs.

mammoth by interpol, surprisingly good remixed, or anything by nine inch nails!

I love Battles by Atlas, but I can't picture it on the dance floor. Listen to it on a very nice pair of headphones (or nicer-than-most anyway--I have Sennheiser 555s) for a wonderful bit of auditory brain massaging.

I can't believe I have to miss this for a wedding. Stupid friends...

4 years ago Lily said

H&FO always, gotta love the yacht rock
speaking of which, when is your party next weekend Fritz?

corrections yet again:
Interpol - Evil
Heart - If Looks Could Kill

4 years ago Scut Farkus said

Personally, I like listening to my 7506's. I can really feel the extended frequency response in that 10-15hz area that the 555's just don't have.

Can? A Certain Ratio? Moonshake? Really?

Cale's got you there, you got lost on your way to the WFTBO website. I mean, "Shack Up" could work, and if anyone can make Starship and Lionel Richie fans dance to ACR, it's Will.

PS Nice use of the Can/Moonshake transition. Clever. If you haven't heard it, pick up Moonshake's First EP on Creation. "Coward" and "Gravity" are head-and-shoulders better than anything they did after.

4 years ago Cale said

Let's make a list of other bands that directly reference Can, I'll start:

The band Moonshake named after the Can song
The band Spoon named after the Can song
The song I am Damo Suzuki by The Fall
The song Dear Can by !!!
The song Losing My Edge by LCD Soundsystem

4 years ago Michael said

Speaking of Can, I think we should bring back the word can as slang to refer to shapely asses (not that there are many of those in DC, at all).

And again: unpanty-line your cans, ladies. It's unsightly.

4 years ago Jason said

Dahhh you got almost all the references I came up with. The Mooney Suzuki is named after CAN's first two lead singers, though (Malcolm Mooney and Damo Suzuki).

4 years ago Lily said

i second Starship and Queen
anytime

4 years ago Cale said

Mooney Suzuki! Duh.

A couple others I found on the internets:

The electronic band Egebamyasi, formed by Scottish musician Mr Egg in 1984, after Can's album Ege Bamyasi

Hunters & Collectors after a song on the Landed album

Kanye West has sampled "Sing Swan Song" on his song "Drunk & Hot Girls" from his 2007 album "Graduation"

The U.K. band Loop was deeply influenced by Can for their repetitive polyrhythmic style, covering Can's "Mother Sky" on their Fade Out album.
