"Here's a hint: If you're up against a girl with big boobs, bring her to the net and make her hit backhand volleys. That's the hardest shot for the well-endowed." ~ Billie Jean King
A LOT of D.C. people are into tennis - politicians' wives and Georgetown law students, sure, but also indie rockers, go-go musicians and Tim Gunn. Think you've got moves? Then step right up and sign up
today for BYT Tennis Glam Slam 2009!

Qualifying Round
Qualifying matches will take place during the week of July 12. We will play 8-game pro set, no add scoring matches at night on the clay courts at Hains Point and Rock Creek tennis centers.
Final Matches
The final will happen in August and will be a BIG summer party - music, food, drinks and epic tennis battles! Glam Slam winners will receive prizes from 930 Club, Commonwealth and the best racquet
customizer on the East Coast who will deck out your racquet with anything you want (dinosaur racquet, Libby?). We'll probably throw in a prize for best / shortest tennis skirt as well.
Proceeds from the final party will go to Tennis at Shiloh, an organization which offers free tennis lessons and equipment to D.C. kids (tennisatshiloh.orghttp://tennisatshiloh.org/).
If you would like to play, please email the following information to
BYTennis@me.com by June 30.
1) Your name
2) Gender
3) Do you a) think you could get at least one point on Roger Federer or b) just play for fun? (We're not using the USTA ranking system but we do need to know your basic skill level).
There is a $10 entry fee to play, just to cover the costs of court time. You will get an email back from us detailing all the information you need to play. Please NO PRO PLAYERS - if you've ever taught tennis
or played for money, sorry. This is an amateurs only contest.
Got that?

God loves a cheerful giver.
Oh gad
I can only hope that life imitates art (let's face it, 2004's film 'Wimbledon' is basically a Fabergé egg), and Kirsten Dunst propels me to rise above my low self-esteem and physical inadequacies to conquer all my opponents.
Actually, if Kirsten Dunst shows up in my life I'll probably quit the tournament and attempt to live in her womb. You'll only see my be-shoed foot dangling from betwixt her pale, pale legs.
Anywho, who wants to practice with me in the meantime? We can make terrible puns to our friends like, "Be back later, I have a court date, lulz."
Assuming it turns out that all you crazy chain smoking hipsters are more into sports than I imagine, I humbly request a basketball tournament as well!
as much as i'd love to play hipster tennis, i don't know that i can partake in anything that benefits the "scourge of shaw" (aka shiloh baptist church). they are such fucking assholes.
Peter lets play 1on1 and if i win you have to change your comments name.
Kevin, what's wrong with this tennis program? I heard good things about it. If you know otherwise please speak up.
i have nothing bad to say about their tennis program. from what i know about it (which is very limited), it's pretty decent.
their failure to do anything with their abundance of vacant properties, their resistance to any and every business in the area, and their attempts to circumvent dc tax code are what i have a problem with.
Fair enough, Kevin. But for the record the tennis program is a separate org and lots of people who are not involved with the church play and teach there. So please feel free to play without fear of supporting bad neighbor policies. The tennis program does good work for kids' fitness.
it's an program of the church, actually:
"TAS is an outreach program of the Henry C. Gregory, III Family Life Center at Shiloh Baptist Church in Washington, DC It was organized for the purpose of providing and promoting physical and spiritual developments through recreation and fellowship in a Christian atmosphere for youths and adults. TAS also offers instructional, social, and competitive tennis play."
pedro, deal, I'm out of town all weekend but I am looking to play at the Watha T. Buckley library courts on Rhode Island and 10th sometime next week on a hot afternoon. Best 2/3 on the games, I really am not very good =)
Becca, I meant financially separate. So a donation to the tennis program is not a donation to the church. However, since TAS has issues, why don't we suggest other orgs and let the players decide? Proceeds have to go somewhere in order for us to get donations and free stuff to give away at the match. I suggest Humane Society.
fear the wrath of my vengeful serve! for low, it will beget aces, and aces beget games, and games beget matches, and matches beget the Glam Slam. So it is written unto you byeth me.
Peter: Sick, awesome. I'm pretty good but im old and white. It will be a battle of the century. What do you get if you win? Whisper me your email on the shitshow and we'll set it up.
