8 Things to Look Forward To In 2008

8 Things to Look Forward To In 2008

January 3, 2008 by Patrick Send to a Friend Send to a Friend

Just because year-end is behind us, does not mean that we need to stop writing lists. Add your own hopes and dreams in comments.

1. Grant Gee’s documentary on Joy Division (US Release)
From the man who bought you Radiohead’s “Meeting People Is Easy.” The film was premiered at European film festivals this past fall and should see limited release sometime this year.

2. UEFA European Football Championship 2008
Was it a fluke that Greece went all the way in ’04? Are the English really better off staying at home? Will anybody miss them?

3. Radiohead “In Rainbows” (TBD Recordings)
Because real music fans can’t settle for lo-quality mp3.

4. United States Presidential Election 2008
Will the American people finally come to their senses? Does Barack have what it takes? Has everyone really made his or her mind up about Hilary? Is Ron Paul serious? Does anyone care about Bill Richardson or Mitt Romney? Is Rudy going to eventually lose his cool?

5. My Bloody Valentine reunion
One of the loudest bands of all time is getting back together for a brief UK tour and a spot at Coachella. Funny story actually. Did you know that in 1992, MBV toured with Dinosaur Jr, Ride, the Jesus and Mary Chain and Blur? Did anyone’s ears actually survive those performances?

6. MTV’s “The State” on DVD
Ok, I have no proof that this will actually be released this year. But either a letter writing campaign or a letter bomb to the suits at Viacom could expedite the process.

7. Nas “N*****” (DefJam)
Let’s face it. Nasir Jones will never top “Illmatic.” But the controversy surrounding the name of his new album should keep him relevant until summer.

PS Bill O’Reilly will have a field day with this one.

8. The Beatles on I-Tunes
Sir Paul told the folks at Rolling Stone magazine that the Fab Four’s music should be available in digital form by Christmas 2008. And you should believe him. Because when he’s done settling that divorce, he’s gonna need the extra income.

There’s strong evidence to suggest that the Beatles stuff on I-tunes will be remixed. But the project has been taking a long time because of legal wrangling with Apple Computers and a royalty dispute with EMI.

Michael Says:

No, not starting shit. I hate the Beatles after they did all their teeny-bop stuff. That I liked.

I would have shot Yoko first though.

And I didn’t see your bulletin Cale. Sorry.

brian wilson might be a much greater singular genius than the beatles, just because he wrote and produced the catalogue by himself, where as paul and john picked up where the other left off, plus had george martin to produce—3 geniuses VS 1, with arguably equal impact on rock and roll music….

sooooo rated, maybe not.

while I agree and think that “God Only Knows” is the world’s most perfect song ever written he then did do this too:
