Brightest Young Things

Here is the official response from the band that they wanted us to share with everyone.  Cools.

---------------------

Dear Music Lovers.

I can't explain the flattery and warmth felt by everyone's compassion and pleas to move the show to the bigger room in the Black Cat.  It's honestly a wonderful feeling and a pleasant surprise.

I do wish we would of gotten wind of this a lot earlier because it might of been possible at a time other than a couple days prior to the show.  The reason we can't move the show has to do with the movement of numbers and the reds and blacks, and honestly, once you get into this discussion, it can really drain the life force out of the music.  So I'll spare you this;  just keep the passion.

In response, we feel we need to accommodate the requests made by everyone so we are currently booking another Black Cat show, this time on the MAIN STAGE in the first week of April.  We would also like to offer a special treat to those who couldn't get in and those in the know.  Prior to the show being advertised to the public, we are going to offer an early presale of tickets so we can make sure that all of you can take part.  To be included in this program simply send an email to jason@nowwearefree.com and in the subject put "YEASAYER + BLACK CAT" and in the body put your email address.  When we are ready to presell the tickets to our secret society, I will send you an email and a link to purchase your tickets.

I know this doesn't settle the score, but we are doing our best.  You have brought us warmth this winter, so we must return the favor the best we can.

Much Love.

Sir James Winnie
YSR MGR.

Hoorah! I can definitely settle for that.

Eh, not that nice - decent consolation prize I guess. They're still saying "No, because we don't think we'd make enough money BUT we'll come back and take more of your money the next time."

Not to mention is it just yeasayer that's coming back? What about MGMT? Aren't they the ones everyone wanted to see?

4 years ago mike said

fair compromise, but yes, we were all going for MGMT

Thanks guys

I was going for both bands, thanks.

i doubt anyone will care about this band come april so why bother...

Nice gesture . . . but MGMT was the reason the thing got sold out in the first place

no wonder eveyone thinks dc is full of assholes. i understand the bands position and at least they are the ones reaching out to their fan base. they didn't have to say anything. MGMT sure didn't.

If MGMT isn't the headliner then they don't have a say (and may not even know anything about what's going on).

4 years ago Svetlana said

its a co-headlining tour

thank you(!).

Michael - being a dick is only endearing when you are making a valid point.

4 years ago Michael said

It is a valid point - depending on the agreement MGMT may have absolutely no input into whether the show is upstairs or downstairs. The letter from YSR MGR doesn't indicate it was discussed with MGMT NOR does it say that MGMT will be back when YSR does play the mainstage - which would be kind of weird if they go through the trouble to book a mainstage show then only sell 200 tickets because MGMT isn't with them on that booking and everyone only wanted to see MGMT in the first place.

If they were co-headliners then MGMT could have worked a deal to get the mainstage on the same night that YSR was on the backstage if, indeed, it was about YSR greed, but it appears that the call was solely up to MGMT (at least going by what they've stated in public).

Edit: "the call was solely up to YSR...)

Allow me to clarify.

The decision to stay downstairs was made by everyone in both the YSR and MGMT camp. It is after all a co-headlinging tour. Please don't give yourself a headache delving too much into the why's and who's. There was a sold out show last night and it was amazing. YSR is coming back in April and you can either go or do something else.

awesome. anyone know the mgr for MGMT so we can get them back too. big ups to both bands for being rad.

4 years ago Michael said

Ah. Clarified. I was just looking at it from all angles.

Were you really knighted?

4 years ago looj said

excellent news. what a bummer that was.

btw byt, what's up with all the hate? they're coming back in a few months (at least i was going for yeasayer, although if mgmt comes back, bonus!) because of all this. i'm sure it wasn't as simple as the cat put it that it was the bands' decision not to move to the mainstage. there are plenty of variables involved.

The information regarding my knighted status cannot be found on the internet.
