As you may have noticed, we have decidedly increased our theatre coverage here on BYT. And as such we can tell you that with a cavalcade of Arthur Miller plays, the History Boys DC premiere, Kiss of A Spider Woman and Stunning all opening in the next few weeks theatre buffs in DC have a busy month ahead (go here for a quick, and easy monthly schedule courtesy of the League of Washington Theaters )
But, also, if you feel that all this may be too cost prohibitive (though, you’d be surprised at just how affordable theater can be as entertainment) there is a number of “pay-what-you-can” shows and special events for all of you to peruse.

Arena Stage in Crystal City
+Arthur Miller Festival Salon: Lively, in-depth conversation with Molly Smith and the directors of Death of a Salesman and A View from the Bridge. Mon, March 31at 7pm. $3 for the general public, reserve at 202-488-3300.
+Downstairs Reading: The Near East by Alex Lewin. An American archaeologist teams up with an Arab activist to unearth the oldest scripture, the “Mother of Books.” Mon, March 24 at 7pm. Tickets: $8 plus applicable fees. Reserve at 202-488-3300.
Rep Stage
+Off-Nite Series: Ida by Gertrude Stein tells the story of a girl who invents a twin and then struggles with her dual identity to find wholeness. Filled with dreamlike imagery and sonic wit, Ida is accompanied by a sound score that creates an aural landscape for the narration. Performs Sun., Mon. & Tues. at 7:30pm, March 30 - April 8. Tickets: $12.
The Shakespeare Theatre Company
+Free programming series “Happenings at the Harman”: Wednesdays from noon-1pm at the Harman Center for the Arts.
Teatro de la Luna
+Las Aventuras de Pinocho / The Adventures of Pinocchio (In Spanish only). The unforgettable classic story brought to the stage for the delight of all children… A memorable trip through the magic circus with Pinocchio and his friends: the Cricket,

+Tea @ 2 Reading: Honey Brown Eyes by Stefanie Szadravec. Set in two kitchens, two soldiers with a fractured past recover a little of what they’ve lost during the war in Bosnia. Two unlikely friendships emerge in this play of humanity and horror. Fri, March 21 at 2pm. Tickets: $5 at the door.
Washington Stage Guild

+Widowers’ Houses by George Bernard Shaw, Tues, March 18 at 7:30pm
Shaw’s very first play, an indictment of those whose wealth depends on cheating others, is as full of wit and compelling argument as his later masterworks. Come and hear what GBS was up to at the very start of his career!
+Lord Arthur Savile’s Crime adapted from Oscar Wilde by Bill Largess, Tues, March 25 at 7:30pm. Wilde’s story of a young man-about-town determined to get his sordid future behind him before he weds has been adapted by Stage Guild dramaturg Largess into a witty comedy of criminal intent.
Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company
