Normally we wouldn’t recommend a concert experience involving a venue named after a car company, paying over 50 bucks to most likely sit so far away you’ll feel like you’re watching a DVD, buying ridiculously overpriced beer, dealing with a terrible parking situation, and with a good chance of being surrounded by douchebags… but we’ll make an exception for Radiohead.

Jeff Koz Says:

While it ain’t Merriweather and it ain’t on a weekday, BOO for venue choice. Nissan is too far away and too unpleasant; I will send my cashola elsewhere.

Michael Says:

I bet the tour shirts will still read “Washington, DC” anyway.

But I agree - heart Radiohead, but not enough to go to Nissan.

Not Going Says:

WTF? what was Radiohead thinking? I will not be going to this— even if BYT gives me free tickets. I am not waiting in traffuck in bumfuck VA. And Live Nation? Come on. Those chumps are the Walmart of the music industry. Radiohead has officially sold out.

February 12, 2008 at 3:35 pm
reggie Says:

Yeah, they’ve sold out. You mean, of course, aside from the fact that they practically gave away their last album and all…

By the way, quick prediction based on nothing other than the fact that I’m bored: My Morning Jacket as openers for all of the above dates.

reggie Says:

By the way, Radiohead HAS worked with LiveNation before, just a couple of years ago when In Rainbows was still in its gestation stage.

February 12, 2008 at 3:46 pm
eduardo ignasio Says:

selling out is when you hear them in a car or computer or camera commmercial over and over, not because of where they play or who opens for them even (cuz more goes into that than you experts think). is signing with a record label selling out, too? and yes, they practically gave away their last album. u2 sold out, feist sold out, gwen stefani sold out, etc.. radiohead did not sell out unless you consider being a major band on a major label selling out. get a grip.

While I like Radiohead (and KidA) posting reviews is not a way to prove a point. To which:

Cale Says:

Um, yes it is.

a) the Candi Station and Cee-Lo albums are good too…
b) many of the albums you cited (Bilal and Beautifully Human for example) were calculated based on 8-10 reviews, compared to In Rainbows 42 reviews.
c) regardless, that’s why I posted examples of year end lists Radiohead has ended up on from both professional critics and non-critics, these albums you listed did not make those lists, and there are many more examples out there, I just chose a few.
d) Either an overwhelmingly large number of respected music critics and fans from both mainstream and underground circles are wrong, or Adam is wrong.
e) Adam is wrong.

weren’t they aiming to have as low a CF as possible while on tour?? why would the choose nissan as the DC venue when it has the least amount of public transit options? i was expecting them to play at verizon but i guess this is a little better. too bad everyone has to drive out to bristow to see them. maybe they should have tried to do bull run again!

I tried to get into Meshell NdegeOcello. I really did. I think she kinda sucks, though. She’s a dc native, too, but she still kinda sucks.

Torrey Says:

What a farking mess.

My brother left Arlington at 6:30 to get to the show…he just turned around at 10. Multiple roads are flooded out and all the detours caused traffic to back up like a mofo. According to him there are thousands of cars that were still trying to get in to the site to catch the last song. Remember….Nissan has a 11PM hard stop. PW County Police will cut the power.

Laura Says:

I was at the show at Nissan. I must say, I will never see another show there again. I will never give Live Nation another dime of my money. I am sorely disappointed that Radiohead did not play at Verizon in DC. After spending 4 hours in the down pour, the 3 hours in the parking lot sitting still was just a slap in the face. Disorganized and extremely rude staff. No shelter whatsoever to provide respite from the storm. We left before the concert ended and still had 3 hours in the parking lot. Yes Nissan and Live Nation suck! True always has been, chances are as long as people keep handing over their money for that kind of abuse they always will suck. However, Radiohead although sounding fabulous, denied we already soaked fans on the lawn the wide screens so we could see what all the torture we were putting ourselves through was for. Since Radiohead’s name is on the Marquis I hold them responsible, for the terrible parking, the rude staff and the people who were turned away and never got to see any of what they paid for. They should not act like they were powerless to help our situation. They should share the equal blame with the rest of the dismal performance of the venue.

May 12, 2008 at 1:56 pm
Rubaggio Says:

How you going to hold the band responsible? All they do is play. They can’t examine the entrance and exit routes from every venue they play.

And although the Verizon Center or RFK would have been MUCH more convenient, the sound quality would have sucked. Not sure if the trade-off was worth it, but there you go.
