The Shakespeare Theater Company opened its doors this past Friday to give DC’s theater bloggers and reviewers a sneak preview of its lustful production of Antony and Cleopatra which is opening this week alongside Julius Caesar as part of the Company’s Roman Repertory.
The company also provided a guided expedition of the newly opened $89 million Harman Center for the Arts—an architectural tour de force alone. The public spaces were symbolically made as transparent as possible, giving a structural meaning to “all the world’s a stage.” With three stories of dramatic glass walls and a bay that projects eight feet over the sidewalk; the structure is better than reality tv as ornamented theatergoers are visible to passers-by and visa versa.
The thirty-minute morsel was enough to wet the lips of DC’s digitalized critics. Gifted actress and voluptuous cougar, Suzanne Bertish, plays a sultry Cleopatra as Andrew Long seduces the stage as former playboy and tragic hero, Mark Antony. Bloggers left before the ill-fated romance unraveled, leaving the juiciest bites of drama for the full-feature presentation. Keep your eye out for the full review next month.
