PHOTOS: WASHINGTON SOCIAL CHRISTMAS
December 18, 2007 by Svetlana
Send to a Friend
So, it was quite the lineup: Washington Social Club played their last show in a very, very, VERY long time, Laura Burhenn of Georgie James was on hand for some piano tuner of heartbreak moments (including an amazing cover of “This Will be Our Year” by the Zombies),
The Dance Party did what they do best (read: fun) with lots of guitar shredding and Mick’s priceless ass wiggles.
Jukebox the Ghost was so good I CANNOT EVEN DEAL WITH IT STILL. Seriously.
Susan and Emily from Exit Clov and May and Nicole of Le Loup rounded out the most crushworthy group of local girl musicians and
Caverns were the in “house band” (I will say they were a little too “man-rock” for me but Jason was totally all about them so….)
+ Tom from These United States and the boys from Le Loup were on hand as well, on cellos, glockenschpiels and beyond.
It was all rather magical, from the Fake Yule Log fire, to the general feelings of camaraderie and fire hazardous backstage behavous to presents to Danny Elfman and Pixies covers and thankfully, Joel (kingpinphoto.com) was on hand to capture it all.
My only question is: what was up with the rapping Santa in the beginning?

oh and Shervin was there supposedly to take photos backstage but I think he got distracted by the abundance of nachos (the man is helpless when faced with Mexican food) as all he shot was this “ode to Kenny the hedghog and hot chocolate” photo of Grace and Cale

and this preparatory photo of me and Laura which the two of us would like to dedicate to the boys2men of DC Rock Club for the reasons of this post and this too and especially this video
Happy Holidays everyone!
Best night of 2007!!! Svetlana we (pash) would love to play one of your lovely events sometime. You are hilarious!
December 18, 2007 at 10:37 amwas this even half full?
December 18, 2007 at 12:06 pmand just WHY are you asking such a question, mike?
December 18, 2007 at 12:36 pmcuriousity? wondering if an all local show filled up 930…shocking!!
December 18, 2007 at 2:06 pmI’m not sure on the final head count but I’d say it was over half full, but not by too much. Although, being a long show there might have been some of the ol in and out.
December 18, 2007 at 2:19 pmHighlights included:
*Laura Burhenn’s Zombies cover
*The Dance Party just kicking ass in general. BONUS Mick’s amazing Rumble in the Jungle t-shirt
*Olivia Mancini’s headbanging
*Jukebox the Ghost’s cover of the theme from The Nightmare Before Christmas.
*A certain cabal of young men from two groups (who shall remain unnamed) hanging out in the corner and just looking extra cool.
Don’t encourage Potsy, you’ll need a restraining order before you know it.
Boyz II Men = “most successful R&B male vocal group of all time”, thus sayeth Wikipedia…if only we had 1/100th of the talent, the world would be ours.
Merry Xmas to all
December 18, 2007 at 3:53 pmfunny, mike. it seemed more like a statement to me.
were you there?
joel these photos are fucking incredible
December 18, 2007 at 5:23 pmThanks Anna… Looking forward to seeing your pix from the night.
December 18, 2007 at 6:00 pmLaura’s version of “This Will Be Our Year” was heartbreakingly beautiful.
Jukebox the Ghost blew me away. WSC was solid as usual.
Wish there had been more folks there for the fun. Happy Chanukah to me.
December 18, 2007 at 6:56 pmyeah, it was about half full, which i thought was decent. there was a storm warning that never happened, that kept some friends of mine from b-more away.
but whatever, we had the best time that night. it’s all good.
December 19, 2007 at 1:24 pmsvetlana is right..there were sooo many nachos.
i could only manage these 2 photos.
