Me: do you want me to do it?
do you want you to do it?
do you want to do it together?
Cale: You write something to start then ill write something - and let’s make it super short cause I gotta pack
Me: So-we’ll shoot emails around? Ok. I’ll start.

The Ting Tings played their first US tour show at 930 club on Tuesday. To be honest-I was a little worried for them.
Hm, worried that they would suck? Cause yeah, I think she’s kind of a crack head…
Now, now Cale, be nice. Next you’ll say she has an overbite or something. But yeah, I thought the vocals would be annoying in that “Toni Basil on Speed” kind of way, AND that it may be boring live, in a way a lot of dance bands are not fun live. But it worked. The sound was great…..
Right - it had high potential for disaster, but it was totally fun and super cute. Crowd was enthuiastic, I don’t think I’ve ever seen fist pumping in the back row of the 9:30 club.

I kinda loved it when everyone lost it to “Shut up and Let Me Go”. Good to see that being overplayed has not fully (or at all) killed it yet. “That’s Not My Name” is still my favorite though…
That’s cause it is their best. But I actually had some beef with Shut Up and Let Me Go, best part of that song is that wicked rad guitar riff, and um, she can’t play guitar. Where was the session man!?

Back in England being paid to play on the new Natasha Bedingfield album? I think that is why they kept the beat so dominant in the sound set up, so that you are so distracted by your own dancing you don’t notice the instrumental shortcomings. What did you think of the dude?
I liked that he wore sunglasses the whole show, but it seemed like the best beats were coming from the sampler. And if they’re so rich now why didn’t they bring a backdrop or some videos or some of their own lights? PS. I still loved the show.
Me too. Too bad it was only 35 minutes long. Which is great if you are a bright-getting-older-thing like me, but the kids wanted to dance for longer, I thought. Will should have closed for them, not opened. There is always next time I guess.

They should have covered the Cardigans or St Etienne to beef up the setlist. But seriously, That’s Not My Name was epic and made up for everything. If you think you’re above the Ting Tings you’re wrong. Hey remember when you were like “where are you” and I was like “meet me by the coffee bar” and then you never came and then after the show you were like “why weren’t you on the VIP balcony with the rest of the cool people?”
Dude, you should know I am ALWAYS on the VIP balcony with all the rest of the cool people. And parents. Get.with.the.program.
P.S. I <3 the ting tings but I still like you more.
And then I fell asleep. Cale packed for NY this weekend. And The Ting Tings probably went shopping for some fluorescent accessories. See them live wherever they are if you missed it, you may surprise yourself with how much you dance.

fun fact: the sold out the night of the show
July 24, 2008 at 2:12 pmSvetlana - you should transfer ownership of this post to me so I can be the dick who deletes any comment that mentions an overbite.
Also we should play a game: How many morons can you count in the first picture opening their mouths and going “woo” because a camera is pointed at them?

WOO FUCKING HOO!
i’m getting there at like 11. there is no way i’m not getting into that show. the free stuff scares me - people come in DROVES.
(so glad you guys had a good time!!!!!)
July 24, 2008 at 2:18 pmthey were actually cheering Will. so that count would be zero.
July 24, 2008 at 2:19 pmPeople cheer DJs? Why?
Also: they’re looking directly into the camera, so unless Will took the photo I don’t believe you.
July 24, 2008 at 2:27 pmdude, Will was like “How are you doing DC?” and they cheered and I took the picture. they’re looking at the camera because I’m handsome and smart.
July 24, 2008 at 2:37 pmI always wanted to have a megaphone and when someone did the obligatory “How you doing DC” shout-out, I’d reply: I’m doing great! Thanks for asking. How are you doing? Must be really tiring doing shows all the time but you’re doing a great job so keep it up”
but it would still be drowned out by retards who think that “woo” is an appropriate response to “How are you doing”
There would be a funny short about people who go to shows getting their lives mixed up so when their bosses walked by and said “How are you doing this morning Miss Smith” they’d jump up, shove an arm in the air to get some full in-your-face-pit action, open their mouths, stick out their tongues and go “woooo!”
but I don’t have a movie camera and I’m lazy. However if people thought about how ridiculous that is I’d almost bet they’d stop using that fucking horrible sounding noise all the time.

Also coming the 9:30 Club, be sure to check it out:
Ready to astonish fans and gain some new ones, Indiana-based indie rockers Margot and The Nuclear So and So’s are touring this summer. The band will release not one, but two full-length albums this fall, one of which is entitled Animal!, composed of songs the band wants to release. The second, called Not Animal , is a collection of songs which their label prefers. One thing is for certain; their blend of orchestral indie pop is sure to please any fan of the genre. Be sure to catch this oddly named but highly talented band for yourself on August 13 at 9:30 Club.
