Photos and words by Paul Goodman.
If I knew anything about writing, I'd use this page to lay out a compelling narrative that would undoubtedly convince you that Metric is a kickass rock band. But you already know this. You know this because you went to the show, and that's why it sold out -- a first for Metric in D.C.
I would also use this space to tell you all about Emily Haines and her hotness, but you know all about that too. And besides, my words wouldn't do her justice. [In all fairness, Libby warned me that this would happen -- she knew I'd fall.]
Haines took the 9:30 Club hostage on Thursday night. She is a captivating performer, laying down synth hooks one moment and powering around the stage mic in hand the next. The full house sang along to several tunes and even - gasp - did some dancing. In time.
Oh, and Metric tours with two three foot tall panthers on either side of the stage.
Enough words.

God loves a cheerful giver.

i think she just gets more amazing as years pass.
sebastien granger fucking stole the show ...
FYI - the same lineup played in NYC a few nights ago and Bao Nguyen (former BYT contributor, if I'm not mistaken) took some great photographs of both Sebastien Granger and Metric:

Bao actually shot Metric for us last time in DC too.
The more photos of Emily, the better:

He's got such a wonderful eye for clean compositions and dramatic light ... definitely puts out a ton of poignant work.
She is sooooooooo hoooooootttttt
i like that crotch shot.
What happened to the kid that got thrown out for drinking and then tried to get back in multiple times. The last i saw he was man handled by the police.
It really was an amazing show. Better than when they came to D.C. last time in September '08. For some reason they just had more energy. Thank "Fantasies" and their growing success.
More great pics (also of Smile Smile and SG, who I must say can work a jumpsuit like no other) and the set list:

I gotta say, I was thoroughly underwhelmed by the show. It's like they went out of their way to play only their power-pop-est songs, and as much as I love Emily Haines, her monologues sounded like they were spoken by a 14 year old: hopelessly naive and very, very corny. But hey, I don't enjoy the music any less.
