It’s springtime (sort of)!
Well, the coat check is gone.
And the birds are kind of singing, and the cherry blossoms are out until we sneeze and regret it, and everything in the District feels a little more effortless than it ever does.
Effortlessness was key at the Cat on Saturday night when Georgie James, Olivia & the Housemates, and Tereu Tereu threw down a great triple bill of local charm.
It was one of those nights where each of the bands meshed together in poppy unison while uniquely holding their own on the main stage.
Tereu Tereu brought coolly layered melodic drifts entranced by trumpet and emotion; they interacted quite well on stage and delivered delicacy amidst sharp, spot-on riffs. Olivia & the Housemates followed, energizing the crowd with snappy melodies and breezy, doo-wop versed harmonies, sweet as a strawberry milkshake. The packed room slurped it up, boogied down, and purred with anticipation by the time Georgie James took the stage. Each song was delivered with punch and electrification, bringing the crowd a dancey buzz of warmth. The foursome carried out an energetic set, capped off with a sparkly rendition of “This Will Be Our Year.”
The Zombies sound the best in spring, and DC feels at ease again.
about GJ - “Each song was delivered with punch and electrification”
i’m sure they are nice people, but i kinda find that comment hard to believe. don’t get me wrong, some of their music is nice, it just lacks a little oomph, especially in vocal stage presence (though LB has a nice voice). of course, that was just one performance i saw. but saying that each song was delivered with punch and electrification? i’m not buying it.
April 8, 2008 at 2:55 pmone person’s punch and electrification is another’s lacking a little oomph. and so on…
April 8, 2008 at 3:05 pmthat was a dumb comment. sorry.
April 8, 2008 at 3:15 pmIf those two in their wheelchairs and that poor dog ever show up I’m going to beat up some dudes in wheelchairs.
Seriously fucking annoying.
And before someone jumps on here with how insensitive I am, know this: there are frequently people in wheelchairs at the Cat. There is one in particular who comes fairly regularly. To the person they are respectful and try to minimize the impact their chair has on the other patrons - not these two - they constantly blocked doors, were completely oblivious to anyone around them (holding up the entrance for 5 minutes or so at one point while they were talking, deciding whether to stay or go (seriously, with one wheelchair in the doorway), going in and out (seemingly just to make people open the doors for them), and being fucking nuisances.
Fucking jerks.
And the poor dog just kept getting jerked around to the point it had no idea what it was to do anymore.

Well done.
April 8, 2008 at 2:06 pmthe saturation and rez of the performance shots reminds a little of the night time footage at Woodstock .
