I’ve Seen Beyonce At Burger King - Cazwell @ BeBar

New York party rapper Cazwell returned to BeBar on Saturday for a performance to preview his upcoming summer release and to support his 2006 album Get Into It. The artist, first known as a promoter and dj in the East Village, had previously performed at BeBar in December of 2006. The midnight set was short, consisting of only four songs - three of which (Watch My Mouth, Get Into It and All Over My Face) were released on his 2006 album on West End records.

The crowd sang and danced wildly to the closing performance of All Over My Face which was recorded featuring overlay vocals by tranny trendsetter and Heatherette’s spokesmodel Amanda Lepore (who herself performed at BeBar last month). The single is perhaps the most vulgarly danceable track in hip-hop. Although banned by MTV - and even LOGO - for its lyrical content, All Over My Face could be considered the first post-feminist rap track. In it, Cazwell manages to make a (downright filthy) song that centers squarely on sex while skirting the use of sexism.

Cazwell also previewed his summer single I’ve Seen Beyonce at Burger King, which has yet to be released. A particular release date has not been issued, and it is unknown if Beyonce will be released on its own or in support of an upcoming album.

I’ve Seen Beyonce at Burger King follows the theme of spotting Beyonce Knowles at various venues around town (including the line “I’ve seen Beyonce at JC Penny”) coupled with the accusation that the artist owes Cazwell ten dollars. Like other Cazwell tracks, Beyonce employs a dance beat while building each verse into a crescendo that begs its audience to move once it reaches the chorus. It may not be high art, but it is a pretty brilliant song whose composition is dead-on and has the potential to become as infectious with club goers as 2007’s Umbrella was with top-40 radio.

Kabanx Says:

Cazwell, along with everyone else on Earth, owes Beyonce 10 dollars per month just because she continues to exist.
