Sandra Krcmar (1/2 of Siamese2Hearts DJ outfit is hot, funny, smart and Serbian (I am at least one of those 3 things, so we also have a lot in common, and get along great).
She is also back in town (from NY) DJing a (free) Garutachi presented party at RNR this Saturday and since I love her to bits (and was feeling patriotic) I wanted to interview her for you.
IN SERBIAN.
AND THEN POST IT IN SERBIAN.
SO ONLY THE SERBIAN COULD UNDERSTAND.
I mean, who doesn’t love a high concept interview?
Which did not work out quite as well since some wires got crossed so what you get is
questions you don’t understand and answers you will.
Plus some sassy downloads.
Overall, you really win more than you lose.
And I will translate my answers soon.
as soon as my brain starts working again.

BYT:Sandra, kako si? Sta ima novo?
SK: Svetlana!! HEY! OH GOD I am not gonna lie to you. Last Friday I was dj’ing some clothing event and a friend brought me lemonade (but I am convinced it was literally 3 parts lemon 1 part water) because the citric acid tore my throat to sh*t and I literally had the scariest sore throat, now turned loss of voice. I am convinced, beyond a reasonable doubt, the lemons grow in the garden of hell. Other than that. I am well :) thank you for asking.
BYT: Koliko ti vec zivis u Nju Jorku, i kako si uopste tamo dospela?
SK: Well I have been living in NYC for the past 4 yrs. I originally came here with a close friend whom I had grown up with in Toronto. I had come down looking into schooling and also the potentiality of a job with a media company. NYC was very very raw at first, I was so used to the manicured appeal of Toronto, NYC is an incredible place but you have to have focus here or you will get lost. I don’t really drink or do drugs so that keeps me out of A LOT of trouble and I love spending time with my good friends whom are all very conscious individuals. When I am not working I am not in the night life scene I am at a restaurant, cafe, art gallery, a very people person which NYC is great for! You really can make all your dreams come true here. You just need to have a good head on your shoulders and know exactly what it is you want or else you will get lost in the temptations.
BYT: Inicijalno is pustala muziku sama a sada si u tandemu. Kako je doslo do te kolaboracije?
SK: Marta (aka Slatka Mala) not kidding I call her a serbian nickname -actually after a serbian pop song whom we’re both fans of. Her and I had been friends for a very long time and we always knew we approached a close affinity to our tastes in the arts (things like music, design, etc) It was so so creepy, I had heard her dj a few times and we dj’ed in the same style even. We decided 2 heads are better than one and formed “siamese2hearts” basically to reflect our similarity and are now happier than ever because we motive one another and get a lot of work done. Unfortunately she was unable to fly in from LA, which we had planned on, due to working with Ladytron which is incredible!!
BYT: Ako smo u Nju Jorku, gde te mozemo videti?
SK: Marta and I really love house, dirty disco, electro dance so places like Stereo, Marquee, Lotus, Hiro, Madison…we are obsessed with the thought of one day ending up in Ibiza. As trivial as it sounds but since we’re such fans of that genre it really is the home to the sounds we love. Not to say we don’t love indie or rock or even hip hop. Really all music is incredible and will all the remixing and cross genres going on you can get exposed to a lot at once. We would also love to dj in our home towns in Warsaw and Belgrade.

BYT: Koje su bile neke od najboljih zurki/iskustava od kad pustas muziku?
SK: Wow! hm! I am totally don’t want to be one of those advocates of optimism and say every experience is incredible but it really is! The people (from artists to crowds to cities to venues) have been so welcoming and are so talented both as artist and as the listener enjoying the sounds that both Marta and I are such loyal slaves and love every moment we’re making someone dance, or chatting with people to find out what they love to hear or what they would produce musically if they could and also meeting all the artists that dedicate their careers to birthing sounds and songs. It’s so gruelling I can’t imagine being a producer (though Marta and I are starting to remix and produce). One experience I will never forget is dj’ing with Fischerspooner, literally at the same time! I had been such a fan since I was a teenager and it was like a dream come true.
BYT: Zadnji put kad si bila ovde, Andy Rourke je isto pustao muziku, a sad je sve na tebi? Jesi nervozna?
SK: Well everyone is one’s own worst critic-especially us serbs such tyrants and despots for perfection ;) So I am always nervous. The one saving grace I consider myself to possess, kinda serves as an anti-anxiety pill for me, is my keen observation in reading a crowd. I am such a crowd pleaser, as is Marta. I hate dj’s that show-off and put themselves on some musical pedastal.
We’re all here to party, have fun and enjoy good music.
BYT: Koje su neke stvari koje mozemo ocekivati da cujemo u Subotu? Neke pesme koje ti se sada bas neprekidno pustaju?
SK: I am obsessed with la musique /riot in belgium as well as hearts on fire /cut copy. literally I am looping those 2 songs all night. I hope you enjoy lol** oh! also “knights of cydonia / muse I am looping that one in as well…it will be interesting to say the least.
BYT: Louis XIV svira show dole, dok si ti gore…jer znas the momke? Kako ti se cine? (molim te da budes 100% iskrena ovde)
SK: Louis XIV are a very talented new band that are gonna explode and
become household names this year! At least I hope so. Their song “There’s a traitor in this room” will certainly pave the way. My only qualm with indie rock music is that the marketing behind all indie bands is not done with the ferociousness of the music and that off
balance hurts. It sucks that in 2008 the music biz is scaled as 33% talent and 64% business. That means the most talented sorts are found out later. That makes no sense to me:(
BYT: Osim Garutachija, koji su ti planovi dok si ovde u Vasingtonu? Koliko dugo ostajes?
SK: I need to see the art! Hopefully my “boss” ;) will vespa me around.
BYT: I za krajm opsuj nesto, posto nema veze, nece niko razumeti…
SK: Svetlana!! Classy ladies don’t swear-jebote! ;)
BYT: Ha ha! Ljubim te i vidimo se sutra!

March 14, 2008 at 12:53 pmomg those photos are HOT. i am now inspired to listen to her mixes. i may transfer my passion for slavs to a passion for serbs!
March 14, 2008 at 12:55 pmsandra and my vespa shall never meet each other again following last year’s near fatal debacle… equal parts talented DJ and beautiful woman, the real reason to come to see sandra at garutachi is to find out why she refers to herself as “DADDY”

I saw something on TV about how lemons evolved into an unpleasant taste in order to not be eaten but our brains desire the nutrients so much that our want gland (or whatever) overpowers our taste senses and makes up like them (same with chili peppers, so much so that our body pumps us full of good drugs when we eat them)
