In true local boys done good fashion this Friday marks a wonderful anomaly on the 9.30 club’s schedule: an all local, all ages, all awesome lineup on a weekend night. DC/VA’s Middle Distance Runner (clappy, infectious fun, all the way through their 2006’s “Plane in Flames” album) and College Park’s The Dance Party (power pop, that is, shocker!, very, very danceable to) cover every nook and cranny in the DC metro area and face off this Friday.
Chances are, you probably have seen both bands or at least heard of them as they both played the local circuit most intensly
(Middle Distance Runner
opening for Snowden and Forward Russia and Exit Clov at the Cat, and The Dance Party being part of the Whips and Olympia lineup, also at the Cat, and opening for Asobi Sesku at the R’N'R).
And now they get a chance to prove what they’re made of at DC’s premiere rock venue.
They sure are excited, and so are we, as this may mean a lot more of high quality, high impact local shows at the 9.30.
So, to commemorate this monumental occasion we decided to let them go at each other.
Neck to Neck.
Question to Answer.
Virtually none of which have anything to do with the show this Friday, but certainly ARE entertaining.
so….knock yourselves out kids.
MDR ASKS TDP
Who is the hotest MDR person?
Erran Chappelean–There’s something about him–intuition? genious? horrific facial disfiguration?
Where have all the cowboys gone?
To the 930 club on Feb. 23 for an evening of indie-alt dance-country explosion!
What is love?
What isn’t it?
How many fingers are we holding up?
I don’t know. How many fingers are WE holding up?
What about Bob?
He’s a fucking loser and he better give me back my recipes or I’ll shank him.
Would you rather have a robot arm or a Corvette?
Duh. Robot arm. The theme song is something like this: “He’s in a band/he’s got a robot arm.” Yeah. Something like that…
How long do you think you can survive in the stomach of a whale?
Depends. If you’re talking about your average humpback, well hell, you can set up shop and live quite comfortably until mating season. But if you’re talking your standard blue? About four days or until the porn gets old.
What’s the next number in the sequence (1, 88, 5, -6, 2, 1, 7, 43, 0, 1, -9) ?
930.
When is the last time you cried and why?
This morning. Night terrors.
Who’s on first?
What the hell is this, The Inquisition?

TDP ASKS MDR
What are your plans after the 930 show?
AFTER PARTY! Ask around your neighbors at the show for details…
What impact, if at all, did The Scorpions have on the mid-80s DC hardcore scene?
The usual.
What impact, if at all, does MDR have on the mid-80s DC hardcore scene?
Oh, you know … a lot.
Remember when Patrick Swayze said, “Back off, Warchild!” in Point Break? Wasn’t that awesome?
Dude, totally!!!
how long do you think you can survive in the stomach of a whale?
Mario did it for a really long time in Mario 2… so I dunno, probably like an hour. Depends on the whale, really… maybe up to 10 or 8 hours…
If you could travel back in time and change one thing, what would it be?
Make sure the guy from Nickelback’s parents never met each other.
If you were reincarnated as something, what would it be?
Nickelback or Hinder so we could do the world a favor and jump off a bridge with bricks tied to our collective ankles.
How hard can you possibly rock?
Hmm. Probably like 9 or 10…
Can you run FAR distances?
About 2 blocks then we all throw up…
What the fuck?
We dunno, man. It’s hard to believe sometimes… you think you know a guy, ya know??
so, there you have it. now just go to this:
