Brightest Young Things

So this past weekend I went to the Humane Society in DC with my brother to look at dogs.  We had an amazing time, they let us take some of the dogs out into the yard to run them around and play with and pet many of them.  There are a lot of stray dogs in this city.  It's super unfortunate, because many are euthanized due to not being able to find good homes.

I'm appealing to your sensitive natures, dear emo kids.  I just received an email from my friend Alexis Mitchell who works at the National Zoo about this doggy, James, who has been adopted twice but returned (no fault of his own).

Forward this around.  Call your friends who love dogs.  Does your gramma need a dog?  Somebody help this poor little dude find a home.  I'm fucking serious.  Help.

More info below.

One oh-so-gray day in March, James lost his way back home and arrived at the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) as a stray.  He became a favorite of shelter staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly over the past 6 months to find him a wonderful new home.

James was adopted in July, but immediately returned because of allergies that his adopted family simply could not afford to treat.  BARCS veterinary staff and volunteers worked on James' allergies, putting him on a non-hypoallergenic diet and treating his skin with a special ointment, successfully improving his condition.

Thinking he finally found his new forever home, James was adopted yet a second time last week at the Maryland State Fair, only to be returned yet again due to no fault of his own, but to a not so pet friendly landlord.

James desperately needs to find his forever home, please be the one to give it to him!

PLEASE ADOPT! Here's my story - I hope it helps!

When I was 25, I adopted my dog Bosie from the D.C. Humane Society. He is the absolute light of my life and has saved me in so many situations and brings a smile to my face every single goddam day. Like James, he was returned twice to the pound - before he was only seven months old - not because he was bad but because people moved to non-dog apartments. Because he was returned twice, he was on "death row" at only seven months old.

I was single in D.C. for four years with Bosie, had an active social life and still could find time to take him on walks, get him fed and play with him every day. You can do it young Washingtonians! It's a small bit of your time to sacrifice for a dog who can give so much joy. Adopt James!
