Yesterday, Dakota was cruising through Dupont and then saw a camera person in front of Subway.
He walked in and took some photos of the Real Worlders having a late lunch? (it was around 5pm)
Then they told him to leave because “they’re trying to shoot” and since he’s polite, he did.
That’s basically it.
Still-we got some photos, and we’re running them.
No matter what you say, you know you want to see them:
(bonus points for the token gay cast member wearing an HRC t-shirt)

Now-pretend to be outraged in the comments.
I am outraged that Subway is still in existence. Shit is Nasty.
I can, however, honestly state I’ve never seen an entire episode of the Real World. I was lucky enough to have seen the beginnings of MTV when it was a music video channel, and then ship off to foreign countries to kill people before it turned into, well, what it is today.
Not having had cable since 1995 helps, too. I’ve saved approximately $10,000.
July 14, 2009 at 9:54 amAs long as they’re not at MY Subway, I could care less!
July 14, 2009 at 9:56 amkatie makes a good point. it’s really important that we be “kind enough” to the real world cast members. because the last thing we should do is gawk at them and take pictures, god knows they’re not attention whores, otherwise they wouldn’t have been on the show.
even though they’ve totally invaded our city, and inwardly love being treated as pseudo-celebrities, the last thing we should do as photographers is disrupt them by taking photos of them eating their submarine sandwiches!!
katie’s starting a twitter feed called @realworlddcsensitivitybrigade, please follow her and all her updates!
July 14, 2009 at 10:30 amthey chose subway over 5 guys?
July 14, 2009 at 10:57 amthe hispanic dude’s hair. and facial hair. i thought that look went out with the backstreet boys…before they were back.
July 14, 2009 at 10:58 amI thought that built Real Worlder was gay. Here he is wearing an HRC (gay organization) shirt. I was walking by the house the other day on the way home and I caught him checking out this hot runner who passed us.
July 14, 2009 at 11:01 amGreat pictures, it’s kind of fun having the RW invade our fair city.

July 14, 2009 at 11:31 amTy (the guy with the HRC shirt) is supposedly straight.
July 14, 2009 at 11:33 amI’m grow and Sexy now. I care not about little kids and kids television. why cover this lameness?
July 14, 2009 at 11:37 amyou needed to go harder on that sell, david.
July 14, 2009 at 12:23 pmdamn papo
July 14, 2009 at 12:52 pmI can’t help but think that this is just a big Happy Gilmore style plug for subway. Why don’t they eat at Ben’s Chili Bowl?
July 14, 2009 at 1:31 pmIs Dakota 5 years old? No need to be so defensive over a blog comment. Chill.
July 14, 2009 at 2:57 pmi took a shit in that subway on sunday afternoon. a really, really long one.
July 14, 2009 at 3:30 pmI think Ben’s Chili Bowl has enough motherfuckers in it already, Pat.
July 14, 2009 at 4:11 pmAre you slamming Ben’s Chili Bowl? I only thought of that because it was in “State of Play” starring Russell Crowe. Now that I’ve thought about it some more I think they should go eat at Bob and Ediths and order scrapple.
July 14, 2009 at 5:17 pmNo, I think that there is nothing wrong with selling ground chuck and tomato paste to hungry people. It was just an easier comment to poke at than some prior, like this one…
“katie makes a good point. it’s really important that we be “kind enough” to the real world cast members. because the last thing we should do is gawk at them and take pictures, god knows they’re not attention whores, otherwise they wouldn’t have been on the show.

which is dripping with lots of irony (purposefully I am sure) and with a little editing becomes broadly applicable
“katie makes a good point. it’s really important that we be “kind enough” to the scenester tourists because the last thing we should do is gawk at them and take pictures, god knows they’re not attention whores, otherwise they wouldn’t have been wearing all that ridiculous crap and making asses of themselves in public.
even though they’ve totally invaded my adopted city, and inwardly love being treated as pseudo-celebrities, the last thing we should do as photographers is disrupt them by taking photos of them drinking PBR.”
But hipster/scenester hate is passe and I am a pacifist at heart anyways so I passed up the opportunity.
July 14, 2009 at 5:28 pmI’m excited to take this opportunity to point out everyone is wrong and I know everything.
Reason 1: Subway paid a lot of money for those guys to eat there. End of story.
Reason 2: Katie, they weren’t enjoying a quiet dinner, they were at a fucking subway. I can’t think of a BETTER place to talk to a random person.
Reason 3: No matter what you think about the Real World, they were producing a product that benefits America and the fine people who make Subway sandwiches. Photographing was interfering with their work, no different than snapping pictures of any other actor during filming.
July 14, 2009 at 6:07 pmTo add to the above reasons:
- Subway gave the cast members cards with money to eat there. Free food. Duh.
-Ty is NOT gay and HRC is NOT a gay organization. It’s a Human Rights Campaign, which deals with more general human rights issues.
July 14, 2009 at 8:59 pmreally jess? HRC is not a gay organization? please tell me you’re not that stupid. did you try going to hrc.org?
it’s not “a” Human Rights Campaign, it’s “the” Human Rights Campaign and their tagline is WORKING FOR LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL AND TRANSGENDER EQUAL RIGHTS
maybe you were just joking? but your comment didn’t come off that way, wooow. you kinda look dumb right now.
ps did you not see the above pics of Ty dancing at Cobalt with is shirt off and his shorts unbuttoned? um, gay.
July 15, 2009 at 11:06 amYeah Jess, you’re stupid.
Now I have, in the past, mused that I think the HRC is inappropriately named, that it isn’t about all rights for humans as the name indicates, but it is about rights for a specific population of humans, namely Homos and all the variations thereof.
To me “Human Rights Campaign” would be working on slavery, prostitution, sexual, political, etc, etc, etc “rights”
But it’s not, it’s definitely for Gay Rights.
So, uh, Dakota’s right and you’re dumb.
July 15, 2009 at 11:09 amWHO CARES?
July 15, 2009 at 11:23 amthat guy isn’t gay – the white guy with brown hair (not pictured) is the [token] gay one.
oh, and hrc IS a gay organization, DUH.
July 15, 2009 at 2:50 pmI guess Subway is sponsoring yet another season of the show? Only possible reason that they’d be eating there…
July 16, 2009 at 5:53 pmYou guys act like you’ve never seen cameras before. Now granted DC is hollywood for the ugly but the uproar that the real world’s presence is causing is comedy.
July 21, 2009 at 10:42 am

i was there, i was there. kind enough to let them enjoy their subway without taking pictures though.
