Brightest Young Things

This will be the second of Woolly Mammoth's annual fundraisers I've visited (if you're not patron-ing or servicing, you visiting) and on the strenf alone of the parties they throw, I'm a little embarrassed to have not even tried to catch an actual live Woolly Mammoth show since the first benefit. That's saying something, considering that I've on purpose seen 2 or 3 plays/theater pieces through to completion in my entire gentlemanly life, not counting those fucking Shakespeare recitals one of my high school English teachers liked to put us students, faculty and families through. Anyway, the theater is also one of those rare things about DC cultural life that's recognized internationally that's not Dischord or the Bad Brains for the billionth time, or

Octomom Prime

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's house in Georgetown or ... and a reputation like that can only help when you're passing the plate around at a time when no one wants to dish out. So at the moment, I'm pretty impressed with how theater supporters pour time and money behind something totally atomless and uncapturable, something they can't outright buy and hang on a wall at home and watch magically get more expensive over time. Their pay off is much much closer to cultivating the baddest lawn in the neighborhood (you ever deal with lawn grass? feed. cut. feed. cut ...) and this seems to suit certain folks just fine.

This year's Bollywood-themed fundraiser was at the Mandarin Oriental, which sits like Cloud City (at sunset, at least) on the bottom edge of the Southwest. Despite, you know, the economic at present, there didn't appear to be less heads this year than last. Like last year, the night got started with a silent auction, followed by a mini-performance and parade to the dining room led by dancers from the DC Metro Punjabi Arts Academy, dinner, another dance performance by the two women of Rhythymaya and, finally, a live auction of the pricey $tuff emceed by the unbelievable BJ Jennings.

These pics are bourgeois, pervy and hypocritical. They don’t reflect the true reality.

Fits has been sliding lately.

Cuz I'm too busy groping in the safe dark spaces to rep the true metal. But don't worry their backs are turned to me and I have no choice but to hang out at the same bars. I know very well.
