if you look at the survey you can see that they're comparing DC with STATES, instead of other CITIES. That's why there would be more drug use per capita. I'm sure if you looked at metropolitan areas, DC wouldn't be nearly as high on the list (no pun intended).

I agree with Stereo Faith. This is only a shock if you're new to this town. DC has been an addicts wet dream for a long time now. Use/abuse by frat boys, hill people and Justice fans has little to do with this stat.
stereofaith's point about the amount of "hipsters" really says it all. i've been back here for only a year and feel like i see all the same faces at different clubs around the city. which isn't bad- just making the point that there are more hipsters doing coke on any given night on ludlow st in east village alone than the total number of hipsters in dc.
cozylab bob, while there are definitely more hipsters in new york, it's also partly because all hipsters in dc look exactly alike. it's like the same hipster over and over and over here.
