No Adams Morgan Day for Madam’s Organ?

No Adams Morgan Day for Madam’s Organ?

September 15, 2008 by Libby Send to a Friend Send to a Friend

While leaving the highly successful BYT editorial meeting in our brand new office I noticed that the front facade of Madam’s Organ was draped in a black tarp and covered with signs declaring, “No Adams Morgan Day for Madam’s Organ” on account of some gross financial misconduct by festival organizers. Too bad there was no literature on-site or on their website to back up these accusations.

I turn to google.

The Washington Post had some answers. I guess the owner of Madam’s Organ and many other Adams Morgan residents are concerned about the shady past of Lisa Duperier, the current president of Adams Morgan Main Street initiative which organizes the street fair, promotes Adams Morgan businesses and seeks improvements to the streetscape. The problem is Duperier’s fuzzy relationship to some offshore investment scandal that has something to do with Rudy Guilliani.

In the Post article Duperier denies any wrongdoing in the matter and emphasizes that “I’m not involved in the lawsuit. I haven’t been sued. I don’t have time to get into that because I have multiple sclerosis and colon cancer and I’m involved in very difficult treatments. All I can tell you is any lawyer anywhere can file anything.”

Further, Duperier says that Madam’s Organ is just pissed that they didn’t have more influence in the selection of the musical talent in this year’s festival.

Will someone tell me what the hell is going on here?

This still goes on? Same crappy food vendors, same crappy entertainment, same crappy people.

OTOH I am sorry I didn’t make the meeting. I had prior plans. They involved working on machines and drinking beer and eating ribs.

Michael Says:

Becca - what you say, honkey?

Cale - no, they are not. And I didn’t say every vendor was crappy, just that they have the same crappy ones.

If the BYT office gets a funnel cake/elephant ear machine I’d come by for certain.

Both are true; Duperier is linked to a multi-million dollar embezzlement complaint, and Madams Organ was overlooked to take on music duties this year. Add in Duggan’s love affair with the local press and you’ve got a story.

Congrats on the new office, neighbor.

I beg to differ. Funnel cakes are crappy, especially when fatties load them down with powdered sugar, frozen then thawed strawberries marinated in sugar, chocolate syrup and whipped cream. Le barf.
Yea, and who cares about this particular madam’s organ.
