If you were the kind of person to believe Wikipedia and Myspace (and I mean, who doesn't?) you may have also believed that Ian MacKaye died yesterday at St. Agnes' Hospital in Baltimore, at the tender yet hardcore age of 45.
Well, you should think twice before beleiving everything you read on the internet.
All "punk is (not) dead" puns aside.
According to Baltimore Sun (via Wonkette), Ian (#1) is not only alive, but also kicking AND answering his phone:
A phone rings at 6:08 p.m. in Arlington, Va. A 45-year-old man picks up. The caller doesn't even have the chance to offer a greeting.
"I am still alive," reports Ian MacKaye (who, and I will only say this as I have been told to never assume people know anything, is the man behind Fugazi, Minor Threat, Evens, and Dischord as well as childhood friend and fellow Hagen-Dazs ice-cream scooper of Henry Rollins)-who apparently has been "blasted with calls, he says, after premature reports of his death were posted on MySpace and Wikipedia. He says he hasn't been able to find the MySpace reference, but had the Wikipedia posting removed -- and then re-removed, once someone reinserted the false news
(the Wikipedia page is currently under secure settings and "Editing of this article by unregistered or newly registered users is currently disabled." So, find places to spread your rumors elsewhere.)
in the meantime, enjoy some Ian (Svenonius) on Ian (McKaye) action:

God loves a cheerful giver.
Hard-hitting news reporting, right here on BYT
really, any excuse to run those vbs interviews.
Doesn't prove anything.
I thought he lived in Mt. Pleasant (isn't)?
Too funny... After living in DC for over 2 yrs, I saw Mr. MacKaye himself for the first time ever walking around Adams Morgan during Crafty Bastards. He was wearing a hat.
That is all.
They should add it in NFT 2008: If you come across an older man wearing a purple fishermans hat and muttering about show rules, smile and say Hi. It's Ian MacKaye.
