“Music Makes Magic” started in the 90s as a dj dance party hosted by the, now former, owners of Club Five.
I think.
It definitely started in the 90s though. Plus, I remember that when Five opened, word went something like “Those kids who used to throw M3 just got their own club, yo!”. Hence Five’s triple-A cred as a dj friendly outfit that didn’t bullshit on the sound system or the dj’s pay out. That stands in high contrast to another popular venue that used to run it just round the corner on Jefferson. If I’m wrong about any of this, well, that’s what the comment button below’s for.
As of this wednesday, the Music’s Motherfuckin Migrated, joe. Up the street then up the elevator to Steve’s Barroom. Resident DJs include Big Sexy, Tom B and Junior Salinas — all Club 5 regulars — either by themselves or in different combinations. The musical selection trips through the gamut, from uptempo club bangers to hip hop to some classic shit just beyond that liminal threshold of what you can remember from when you were in pampers. The place gets pretty packed with very sexy folks and everyone recognizes one another; the vibrations are friendly and familiar and not some fancy pants cliquish shit. This is Steve’s afterall, which, like Pharmacy Bar, is one of D.C.’s nicest cubbyholes. And I’ve yet to catch cover charge or dress code pressure, so, no excuses.
On the strange tip, Ron Jeremy will be at Steve’s next Monday for a book signing. Something about “The Hardest (Working) Man in Showbiz”.
I know, I know …
Not scheduled but highly probable from past experience, is the tight fleet of porno babies Mr. Jeremy will roll with. I guess you’ll have to see to believe.
Checked out Wednesday this week and felt like the real FIVE saw Tim and friends just like it should be. They even had my man Dre at the door bringing the good vibe right up the road good move Steves Bar Room!
