From the kind folks over at Capitol Weather:
The Storm Prediction Center says hail to 2 inches in diameter, thunderstorm wind gusts to 70 mph, and dangerous lightning are possible. The most likely timing for severe storms in the metro area is between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. — although storms may continue after that time.
DCist, (in all their infinite transportation coverage superiority) has the full report on expected delays and beyond.
In the meantime, while you are “staying away from windows and taking cover”, some entertainment/movie recommendations for tonight:
1. Wizard of Oz.
It makes everything better knowing that any second now, after the hurricane, we’ll be in technicolor again.
2. Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Rain brings hope of running into George Peppard on a street corner, wearing a trench coat and he will kiss you like you were meant to be kissed
3. Umbrellas of Cherbourg. I will die! Don’t be silly, people only die of love in movies!
4. And of course…
Michael, how do you know?
I just woke up from a much needed nap, and this is what i have to look forward to tonight? lame-o. Though, dancing in the downpour is always an option. I will probably do this. No, i will most certainly do this. (unless it hails, that stuff hurts!)
June 4, 2008 at 6:33 pmriding a bike in the rain can feel like getting hit by an automatic bb gun. it just started pouring again.
June 4, 2008 at 8:22 pmwhen it started, it looked so rad
i walked outside, and leaned back
the wind kept me from falling backwards
then as i stood up, the wind pushed me forward 5 feet on my flats
then my headband blew off
then i knew it was time not to tempt fate any longer and go inside to watch the fun
Mt Vernon still without power, had to haul my dad’s fridge and freezer foodstuffs to mine, what a workout
at least i didn’t lose power, thank goodness
really sad to hear about the resulting death in this madness

You also shouldn’t ride a motorcycle in that deluge we just had. Go ahead, ask me how I know.
