Most people I know don't have $175 to spend on a ticket to Zoofari. If you do, though, I would highly recommend checking it out on May 14th. I somehow ended up as a furry-loving adulterer in a video advert that the zoo produced:
It's the National Zoo's biggest event of the year, replete with food from just about every one of the city's fantastic restaurants. It's a lot cheaper than trying all of these restaurants individually:

God loves a cheerful giver.
$175?!?!
more like $125. unless you aren't a friend of the National Zoo. but why wouldn't you be a member of FONZ?
chad, because taking an elephant* with a range of 11,600 to 24,300 km2 and putting it in a 1/4 acre so fat people can stare at it isn't something I, personally, can support.
*add your choice of animal here, too. The Giraffe is my favorite animal and has a range of around 99 miles and can run 55mph. Again, sticking it in a little space so tourists can say "oh how cute" just sticks in my craw.
michael, i'll assume you meant can't support.
but, whatever, dude. i get it. remind me not to invite you to go to the circus with me.
a world without elephants is a world I can't support. thanks National Zoo for all of the conservation work you do to save them in the wild!!
Uh, I'm a FONZ member...I'm pretty sure the money for this event is going to help them finish making the elephant house bigger...so...they obviously do a lot of great work at the zoo for these marvelous creatures.

Maria - are they going to make it hundreds of kilometers bigger? No. How would you feel if you weren't allowed to go beyond the tiny patch of grass in your front yard, and into your room? Would you be ok with it if they told you that by confining you and studying you they were helping some other person on the other side of the world?
Ella - stupid argument. Plenty of people, agencies, etc study elephants in the wild and don't need to jack them up in tiny spaces to do so.
Chad - yes. Can't support. And you never invite me anywhere.
grammatically, michael is correct, and philosophically, i think he has a good point.
it ISN'T something he can support.
not...it isn't something he can't support.
you're right sasquatch, i misread michael's earlier comment. grammatically speaking, i mean.
michael's argument that it's like being only able to in your yard and your room sounds like prison (or technically house arrest) to me.
and as far as i'm concerned, all those elephants at the zoo were or would have been murderers and rapists in the wild. so they are right where they belong.
and eddie, i don't have time to go clicking on links so i have no comment for you.
p.s. hey michael, you wanna go to a circus with me sometime? al budd and i went to one once that had bears riding horses (just like how russian bears travel in the wild!)
they also did a "Salute to the Old West!" which was just a bunch Daisy Duke lookin chicks doing the Boot Scootin Boogie. no lie.
Chad - if it is a no-animal circus and I can wipe my popcorn and cotton candy hands on your beard then yes.
