Sometimes it is a good day for local music. And sometimes, not so good.
As of yesterday, Gypsy Eyes records, the home of everyone from Vandaveer to Apes to Revival to ChildBallads is no more. Which is a damn shame since DC grown labels are far and between and GOOD DC grown labels are even farther and betweener.
Remind yourself of all DC may be missing out on by reading up Hannah's classy interview with Kalani just a few months a go:

God loves a cheerful giver.

what? but why?
We aren't really shutting down. We have decided that due to the fact that we can't seem to sell any actual records, it makes more sense to free our artists from their contracts and give them their records back. We weren't going to tell anybody this but DCist got their hands on and published the letter we sent to our artists ONLY. We will still be doing things, all our bands will still be making music, playing shows, getting drunk, etc, we will just be focusing on avenues that actually make money.
