Disco to Disco: Cities and Warehouses

Disco to Disco: Cities and Warehouses

Last friday’s Disco City at The Rock and Roll Hotel was unusually slow. Anyone who’s followed BYT coverage of this party over the past few months knows that this is one gigantic monthly orgasmobomb. Despite the headcount, the heads in attendance took it for the little rub-out that it was and got their’s for sure. I was barely there an hour before Chris, his boy Benguin from NYC, and I were Hyundai-ing over to the second (so far) of Adrian Loving’s warehouse parties, leaving co-mayor Maximillion Dunbar to hold down the City.

Unlike last time, there was no sufferation in a long rain-soaked line at the door. And there certainly weren’t as many bodies either. The headcount was just right however, with two spaces and two sets of dj’s giving people enough room to circulate and use two thankfully underburdened bathrooms. When Chris, Ben and I arrived, DC-area super legend Mandrill was in the main space and Jamil Jahsonic and DJ Stylus, in the far room. The stairwell, where people hang out and not smoke cigarettes, is always a bit of a circus. Seriously, you’ve got like ten or so full-on characters straight-immobilized by their Newports and bizarre convo. This hottest spot in the house. And what was this lady doing with a bag full of oranges and champagne?

Inside, dj’s and dancers alike were going nuts, feeling that feely. Young Chris Burns immediately followed Jahsonic and Stylus. You know the rest. Back in the main room, Osunlade — apparent object of all’s groovelust — took over and ran with it until shop closed. I believe we were there til 5 or 6 in the morning before hitting The Diner just in time for sunrise.

Niceness.

Adrian Loving Says:

Yes this was a killer party! I was up for 24 straight hours with my day starting in the gallery painting for Osunlade’s show at Dissident Display Gallery, then painting, spackling, buying wine, mopping and painting the floors, running all over dc and then eventually rocking a few choice jams in front of two legends, Mandrill and Osunlade! Damn Life is good! (I hope heads in DC realize how good they got it right now)
