Brightest Young Things

Under normal circumstances, we really feel zero need to cover the, so called, "actual metro area news" (others do it and do it better, or at least, more diligently). But this, dammit, affects us.
Namely it affects me since I don't drive and will never drive.
Cabs, my friends, along with feet and metro (and that bicycle I plan to steal from my Dad any day now) are my life.
And they already are well, pricey, right? (right. Especially, if like me, you live right on the "in-between-zones-line".)
And now...

here is the official statement (from the comission of cabs and gas and evil):
Starting today there will be a $1 surcharge on all taxicab rides in the District.
(something regarding gas prices)

but wait there is more
The commission said the surcharge only applies to trips inside D.C. It does not apply to trips to or from Maryland and Virginia or to any of the D.C.-area airports.
(read: the suburbs that are the prime gas guzzling machines, still get to save that 1 dollar on the 20 dollar trip, but you will NEVER BE ABLE TO GET ANYWHERE in the district for less that 10 dollars now, whether it is to the next corner or ...)

and in case that isn't enough:
here is a little video on the announcement

that is all.
thank you.

and now...any excuse for a Mr.T photo
-now-him driving a cab would be worth even the additional 2 dollars.

Do I still have to pay the $1 if the cab driver spits on me when I call him on overcharging? This has always been a grey area for me...
