Today, the LIVE BUTTERFLY PAVILLION opens at the Natural History Museum, as part of their “Partners in Evolution” show. Over 400 live butterflies will be on display in their (simulated) natural tropical setting for everyone’s joy increasing chances. It may be one degree outside but it is summer at the museum. The exhibit itself is free but the pavillion admission price is 6 bucks.

You can find details on the exhibit here:http://butterflies.si.edu/ (as well as some info on volunteering opportunities) but the main thing is: we (and by this I mean, “I”) got so painfully excited about this that I sent not one, but TWO photographers to the press preview this Wednesday. So, here is what Joel and Dakota captured:

Lily Says:

do you know how long i have waited for this?
to be done with school, back in the area, so i can visit a room full of creation’s most perfect insect?
doesn’t crap on you, sting you, bite you, make noise
just sits, walks around, flaps its wings, bringing beauty and joy, seriously, i heart butterflies

when i read the ad in the Express yesterday, i freaked
jaw dropped on the metro, i didn’t care who saw me

i can’t wait to go and take pictures with one or more landing on me!

Oh sure, just wait until they flap their wings and start hurricanes thousands of miles away, then see how much you like them.
