Brightest Young Things

If there is one thing I've been dreading all week than that was writing the Halloween Best Weekend Bets.
TOO MUCH TOO SOON TOO LITTLE TIME.
And that is before you even start thinking about your costume (ideas for latecomers available here and here and here).
Maybe some of you just want to watch some movies. We understand.
Maybe some of you just want to drink some wine. We understand.
But also, maybe, just maybe some of you want to get dressed up and go out.
For those of you, here we are, for better or worse, and till death and perma hangovers do us part.
Just remember to wash make ups off before you go to sleep.
Ok?
Oooooo-k.

Thursday

Not really Halloween yet but don't tell any of these parties that:

- Bee's Knees are throwing their Halloween jam @ Velvet Lounge (with EXACTLY playing upstairs). If you are naked and covered in fake blood your photo WILL BE TAKEN.

-Reform school takes over Asylum for a spookily themed dress-up fest

and those Polysics people are always in costume so you may as well go and check them out @ The Cat.

Go home. Rest.

Friday

Wake up and smell the candy.
After a whole day of sugar highs (and lows) take some time to absorb (at latest count) 17 Halloween themed events on our calendar. There are gay, straight, trashy and less trashy options for everyone but here are our few picks of the bundle:

Ragers:

-The Loda juggernaut @ Gallery starts early (at 8), goes late (till 5) and has everyone and their mother DJing. Win some tickets here.

-RNR Hotel has something elaborate in store

-TAXLO is, expectely, throwing it down. Free tickets can be had here.

and

-Adrian Loving is doing something early and something late if you just want to bar hop but not compromise your DJ choices.

Classier alternatives:

- Alliance Francaise is doing a "Night in Moulin Rouge" @ Napoleon
and
-Junior League serves up some spooky bluegrass @ Iota

Alternative selections:
The LOC is playing an amazing sounding movie.
Haunted forrests are always fun if you're the kind of person who likes being jumped at
and
Staying at home with a mountain of candy corn is always an option.

Plus, as I said-18000 other things on the calendar.

Saturday

are you still alive?
hopefully.

There is a bunch of cool stuff going on but I recommend the following itinerary:

Nilay Lawson's opening @ Transformer followed by either Bishop Allen or The Murs show, depending on your musical persuasion.

Sunday

Hercules and Love Affair/Dance Party combo hits 930 club.
Good luck with that.

And aside from it, save some energy for our kick ass election party on Tuesday an d....I dunno, my fingers hurt from typing this....
you tell me what we missed?

God loves a cheerful giver.

First, can we give some props to Bao Nguyen for those remarkably moody halloween pics up there... which were taken at a party i throw called nuevo richeo?

Second, i know it's not halloween themed, but i'm playing all international joints tonight at Dahlak with my man Fich of Philadelphyinz (from.... Philly). upon the advice of jamie childs, we might be giving out free pomegranates. 10pm, 18th & U, please join.

third, i hope you are adjusting your sleep schedules and/or doing whatever you need to do to stay awake really late friday night, cause nouveau riche DJs are going from 1:30 to 5am! horrendously epic.

fourth, i need some halloween costume ideas. and yes, i know i am a scary mess of a person anytime i'm at a club anyway, but i'd like to go with something more creative for the holiday,

and,

fifth, i'm on the internet on a bus back to dc! golly, technology has come a long way. and this weather!

we're going to have an ambulance on site @ LODA to handle all the heart attacks and stroks that occur on the dancefloor.... if you don't know, you betta axe somebody.

@ Gavin: i'm going as the "little engine that could" for the first portion of the night - then i'm morphing into a train wreck by around 5 or 6.... i think you should plan a morphing costume as well - they're all the rage these days.

hehehe

Graham gave me a minimal commitment involved smashing idea for a LODA 'stume. I haven't dressed up fro Hw since I was 9 or something but this one will make the minimal commitment effort worth it.

Fitsum - i think you should go as a straight up nerd.....
try to find some real dorky shit at a thrift shop that won't cost you much or take much time. if you can find some really dorky frames, take the lenses out and put some tape on them.
just make surw you don't accidentally look like a hipster - hehehehehehehehe
