This weekend is actually shaping up to be pretty interesting, lots of quality options, so no need for Alpaca Farm excursions. Check the weather at my new favorite site: http://umbrellatoday.com/
THURSDAY
-Tivo the debate. Cause you're going to have to pause while you get your cringes out and bite your pillow as that terrifyingly ignorant, no-periodical-reading, contradictory red neck, homophobic bigot, incompetent Jesus Freak, right wing twat who knows less about the Supreme Court than Homer Simpson, thinks the Earth is 6,000 years old, and just got her passport, bullshits and meanders her way through every topic.
"You know what? It's time that normal Joe Six-Pack American is finally represented in the position of vice presidency"
No Sarah it's not. That's the whole point. The reason we have these jobs is so the well-educated pretentious elitists can be in charge of our nuclear arsenals and make the right decisions for the Joe Six-Packs. Jesus fuck, why don't you and half of America understand that? We gave the rednecks their chance for 8 years.
aaaaaaaaaaaanyway
-Are you a wine and cheese and art kinda guy? Then Corcoran Power Hours or Phillips After 5 is for you.
-Do you like live music? Well Jenny Lewis is sold out, Ratatatatatat is sold out, and while NKOTB sounds like it could be a fun idea on paper, it's not. Similar to re-watching The Wizard.
So your best best are the Sonic Circuits Festival and Damien Jurado.
Watch out for grenades.
FRIDAY
So many options, so few hipsters...
-Please read William's glowing recommendation of Glasvegas here.
-I haven't been to Moneytown yet but it sounds awesome and the flyer is rad.
-This Soiree Carte Blanche thing has potential, depends on what kind of crowd shows up.
-Chris Burns is still my favorite DJ in the city.
-House of Sweden events are always quality. And I'm wearing Nudie Jeans right now.
-Fleet Foxes is sold out. Sucks.
-The Nat Geo All Roads Film Festival continues with a performance by K’NAAN, check out this glowing rec from Jeff, and another guide here.
-And finally, a black hole of music dorkiness will be created and swallow Marx Cafe when BYT contributor John Foster guest DJ's at BYT contributor Rick Taylor's monthly We Fought the Big One. You've been warned.
SATURDAY
-Look people, we're throwing a soccer party. I don't even like sports and I'm going. There is free beer and food and it will be fun. Buy your tickets now.
-If that's just not your thing, be sure to check out the Small Press Expo, our guide is here, but it's also going on Sunday, so you know, come to the soccer thing.
-Afterwards you have two options. The first is Chromeo. Shockingly there are still tickets left.
Second option is whichever band ends up still standing after an epic battle. These Unites States hit first, and Jukebox the Ghost hit back even harder.
.
Talk of a show down after hours at Dahlak is in the air too.
SUNDAY
-Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds has been sold out since last year. There is still Sonic Circuits Festival stuff going on at Velvet and The Lady Museum.
-As for Sunday movies, Iron Man is out on DVD, I watched it last night and it's just as perfect as the first time I saw it. But check out the more highbrow recs from our movie people. Also watched Peter Jackson's King Kong Extended Edition for the second time the other night. That movie was so underrated. Cried my damn eyes out. Epic.
-Oh, and the Small Press Expo is still going on.
-Whatever you do don't help a friend move if they've graduated from college. That's my rule. If someone graduates from college they need to hire movers. End of story.
As always - put your own suggestions in the comments. We love comments.

God loves a cheerful giver.
I love Cale's BWB's even when I am not mentioned (although he nailed us right on our music dork loving heads.) Word on the street is Glasvegas is almost sold out so don't plan on walking up and come by We Fought The Big One either way.
Saturday has so many quality shows that my head spins. Junior League are back in town and having a CD release as part of the Jukebox show as well. GASP is hosting an Obama Fundraiser at Dahlak with tons of great bands that kicks off at 3 for those that want to get their music on early.
classy junior league listening party coming your way tomorrow.
also, dream of me and my falling off toenails during the breast cancer walk this weekend.

Vox Pop is headlining The Red and The Black, Monday Oct. 6th. It's their DC debut. The Red and The Black is having an $8 ALL YOU CAN DRINK special (and there is no cover!). Let us also mention that it's Jess of Vox Pop's birthday. So go to Sticky Rice for a half price meal, then come drink for cheap and rock out to the sounds of Vox Pop.
Sincerely,
Vox Pop

the definition of kitsch
philly was last weekend: dan le sac vs scroobius pip. too bad you missed it.
sorted is also at the cat on friday, and ratatat are playing sonar on sunday (tickets still available).
also saw glasvegas open for the bunnymen on wednesday night. all i can say is...epic. actually, i'll probably write about the bunnymen show, that was something else.
William. I, however, saw the Upper Crust:
I also saw these guys performing on the street, because a venue in Philly wanted to dick them over - so instead they played to a huge crowd right on South St:

They will be at Sidebar in Baltimore tomorrow night. People should go, but they probably won't.
It was about as cool as Joshua Bell playing on the metro and no one recognizing him.
