May is FOOD MONTH on BYT (after SEX, focusing only on life’s necessities with our themes) and as such you can expect a visual overload of food posts. One of the regular columns we plan to have is: WHAT’S IN YOUR FRIDGE; where we explore the window to everyone’s soul: the contents of their fridge/freezer.
We will be intruding onto the kitchens local people of note, readers, food critics and chefs, pr people and beyond.
Today: Robb and Violeta Edelman Duncan of Dolcezza let us inside their (newly moved into) fridge.
Before we begin, things you should know: The Edelman-Duncans spent two years in Buenos Aires perfecting the Argenitine style of gelato (LOTS of cream, NO eggs) and have been dispensing it at their Wisconsin avenue location, and at assorted Farmer's markets around town for a couple of years now. Just last weekend they celebrated the opening of their Dupont store with a massive pork roast/gelato orgy (check out some photos from it here) . When we stopped by their freshly moved in home in Petworth (you have to love people that move the same week they're opening a store and hosting a 1200 person party) Violeta's Italian/Arengentine family was around, Robb instantly and proudly pulled out half a suckling pig out of a freezer as if it was a trophy, their baby Pema (8 months) was grabbing both our fingers and strawberries with both hands and we INSTANTLY felt we were at A HOME, not a house.
And then they opened their fridge:

- IN THE SIDE DOORS:
Sliced dill pickles, Milk's Caramel (aka Dulce de Leche which is, naturally, one of their most popular flavors), Muffins, Ketchup, Milk, Almond Mil, Preserves, Mustard, More Pickles, Mayo with Olive Oil, THE BIGGEST CHUNK of Amish Butter (which smelled as good as cheese-the family spends a lot of time at Farmer's markets and it shows) you've ever seen, Vegetable Bouillon, Regular Butter, Coffee, Coca-Cola, Regular Butter

- Inside the fridge itself:
Keswich Creamery Yoghurt (which they swear by), Blue Ridge Dairy Fresh Mozarella, Maggie's Pico Salsa and Queso, Avocados, Artichokes, Strawberries, Rick's Picks Phat Beets, Organic Lemonade, Leftover Earth's Best Soup, Fresh Atwaters Breads, Baby food and more baby food

- One of the best vegetable crispers we've run into yet:
Fresh chilli peppers, radishes, asparagus, arugula flowers (which Robb just picked up at White House Farmer's market, and apparently have a great little kick to eat on top of salads), Avocados, Carrots, Bright Red tomatoes
- A lot of meats and cheeses:
Wisconsin chedddar, Salami, Soft cooked Ham, Spreadable cheese and Red Apron's N'Duja spreadable salami (which Robb announced was "RED NUTELLA-just some pork fat, chillis, perfect for spreading on anything") and Smoked Pork Jowl

WHICH LEADS US INTO THEIR FREEZER where I think it is important to mention that Violeta is vegetarian but you'd never know:
The aforementioned half a suckling pig, Bone Marrow, Pork Belly, Poultry, Beef, Assorted Dolcezza Flavors: (Sicilian Pistacchio and Heirloom Apple Cider, though the couple is constantly experimenting with new flavors, although they always start with basic combinations to build upon: Lemon Basil, Dulce de Leche, and have recently been into cutting some of them with liquor (Tequilas and Bourbons especially) which they say add a really nice texture to the gelattos as well), MORE MEAT, baby milk, Prinskrov Sausages (the best, apparently)

And that is what is in Violeta and Robb's fridge. Don't you want to move in?

God loves a cheerful giver.

Ahhh! That's a vegetarian's freezer?? How does she survive it? But, uh, 2 thumbs up for the almond milk.
wow this is hard to top...even being the opposite of a foodie i can tell this is obviously the fridge of folks who eat real good at home.
respect for having nothing that needs to be microwaved.
Please photoshop out those tomatoes! They should never be kept in a refrigerator
