This week we get our own Cereal Bowl, I puke wine, 9:30 kicks ass, girls will line up for cupcakes and ethnic grocers all mapped out, Founding Farmers vs. WaPo, Top Chef wraps, ratios, Slim Fast recalled, Tiger Woods and Gatorade and macarons go mainstream.
The local news:
- The moment Cale has been waiting for... D.C. is set to get it's very own Cereal Bowl. Opening in Cleveland Park, this places serves cereal, cereal, cereal and some other stuff that isn't cereal. Also, you should read John Foster's post on cereal box art.

- Last time I went to Ray's The Steaks, I drank wine too fast, got the reflux and puked behind a Zip Car (classy). That being said, Michael Landrum is opening a wine bar called Ray's The Glass. Also, since he must be bored, a place that serves only game meat called- oh, you get it. Read more about from the Washington Post.
- Everyone's favorite venue is trying to kick hunger's ass! Buy the 9:30 Club/DC Central Kitchen Shirt for $20. It's for a good cause and is not fugly.
- Georgetown Cupcakes is about to become 100% less annoying. They are moving to a bigger space in M Street to accomodate the throngs of people who like small cakes. And, and...Free cupcakes are being given out on Tuesday the 15th. Men, I just told you where a bunch of girls with messed up priorities are going to be lined up.
- Someone on Chowhound made a Google map of all the ethnic grocery stores in the area. Nice resource.
- Jane Black at the Washington Post goes after Founding Farmers for not being quite as sustainable as they claim to be. Founding Farmers responds.
And the round up:
- TOP CHEF FINALE TONIGHT! All contestants are awesome and should win. Maybe two should win and then take over Hosea's spot.
- I make a perfect pie crust (3 parts flour, 2 parts fat, 1 part water). I use Michael Ruhlman's Ratio and it changed my life. Now there's an app for that.

- All Slim Fast cans are being recalled. Just a public service.
- Gatorade is dropping Tiger Woods' sports drink. But really, if ever a man needed electrolytes.
- Metrocurean points out that macarons are the new cupcake. And I totally agree. The kicker, that Starbucks is selling macarons through the holidays.

God loves a cheerful giver.
I love that ethnic grocery store map.
i've been waiting and waiting for a take over of the cupcake trend and i'm sad to hear its macarons. i hate them way more than even the terrible cakelove cupcakes.
How can you hate macarons? They are pretty and delicious. You just want attention.
A friend of mine makes macarons from scratch. They're delicious. I never signed on with the cupcake trend...
1 part water sounds like a lot for pie crust ... you should try subbing some of that out for vodka .... just ask easy to work with, little softer after cooking
@Dan - trust on the pie crust. A few tricks. I use frozen butter, ice cold water and the paddle attachment on my kitchenaid stand mixer. I'll try the vodka though, imagine it would be really flaky as the alcohol cooks out.
The recipe is on this NPR segment: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=107019060
There are no eastern european groceries on chowhound! where am I supposed to get salo? (seriously - does anyone know?)
not to be confused with Salò.
