It's the day after the happiest day in the city. You're either exhausted or still recovering from the BYT Inauguration party. You're really glad all these people came and enjoyed our fine city, but thank you it's time to leave.
Because we love D.C., and we love food, we'll going to be doing some Q&A's with local food folk. We want to give you some insight into what they value, what they suggest for anyone's kitchen, their biggest inspirations and favorite places in the city. This first one if Katherine Kallinis and Sophie LaMontagne of Georgetown Cupcake. These sisters opened D.C.'s first cupcake shop in 2008 and have proceeded to become local phenoms, even drawing national attention with their tasty, tasty wares.
Much thanks to the ladies for jumping into this, which I feel is a lot like their cupcakes, fun and light.
If someone walks into your shop, what do they HAVE to get?
A red velvet cupcake, of course! It is our most popular flavor and hard to resist. Also, we have come out with our new charm collection.

What's the best customer reaction you ever had?
We had two daughters and their father sing us a song one time! They said they were so inspired by the deliciousness of our cupcakes, they made up a song and performed it in front of all the customers in line.
Name five ingredients you think everyone should have.
That is a hard one! But, we value quality above all else. Madagascar bourbon vanilla, Valrhona chocolate, fresh citrus, fresh berries and European sweet cream butter are things to always have around.
What your favorite ingredient or kitchen tool right now?
The kitchen blow torch-- we use for our toasted marshmallow cupcake!
What's your guilty pleasure?
Sophie: Our chocolate hazelnut cupcake.
Katherine: Our pumpkin spice cupcake.
Who is your biggest influence, or your hottest food crush?
Our grandmother is our biggest influence. We used to bake with her when we were children and that is where we developed our love for baking! As far as hottest food crush, Mario Batali, for sure. We love his sexy orange crocs.
One thing everyone should know how to make?
A good cocktail.
Best meal you ever had?
An open aired restaurant in Santorini, Greece. It was the most incredible food!
Someone comes to DC to visit, where do you take them?
We love to give everyone a taste of the Georgetown areas, so we usually do lunch at Leopold's, shopping in Georgetown and dinner at Cafe Milano.
You just got a phone call and you need to make dinner for four in under an hour. Using only what you have in your house right now, what's for dinner?
A steak salad on fresh spring greens with balsamic vinegar and shaved Parmesan on top!

Coming up soon is a great Q&A with Susan Watterson of CulinAerie, a new cooking school in Logan Circle. Want to hear from someone? Let me know.
God loves a cheerful giver.
