This week, a new look at H Street, one of Oprah’s favorite things and the expansion of the best sandwich ever.
Englertfication
Joe Englert gives the City Paper a look at his ongoing H Street domination. We find out that Teddy Folkman, chef at Granville Moore’s, will be designing the Mexican themed menu at H Street Country Club. Downstairs will be Tex-Mex, upstairs will be more traditional. Englert is also planning on opening Vendetta, an Italian restaurant with a shared outdoor garden area. One of the restaurants sharing said garden will be Joe’s Coal and Ice House. This will be another Englert property, serving up steaks to the neighborhood. No word on these openings.
H Street in the daytime?
If you were at the H Street Festival this weekend you may have seen that Sticky Rice was serving lunch. Their website says this will become a regular feature in November. The Pug was testing out brunch during the festival with something called Hangover Hash, will it stick?

You get a biscuit! You get a biscuit!! You all get a biscuit!!!
Oprah’s former personal chef Art Smith has just opened a place on Capitol Hill. The menu reminds me of the upscale Southern food served at Vidalia, but with one exciting addition, a whole menu section devoted to hoe cakes. I’m not okay with the specialty cocktail called the Iron Plushie, seriously.
Less garden rolls, more sandwiches
Four Sisters, the iconic Eden Center restaurant, closed its doors. It’ll be moving out of the Vietnamese shopping center to a new location in Merrifield. I was mildly bummed about this, mainly because Four Sisters is probably the bet place to take a large group of out-of-towners. But instead I’m super stoked to hear that the shop is being taken over by their sister store Song-Que. Song-Que, currently right next door, is a small shop churning out amazing bahn mi sandwiches and bubble tea drinks. If you have never had bahn mi, shame on you. My favorite is the grilled pork, served in a baguette with jalapenos, shredded carrots and cilantro. Served with an avocado shake, naturally.
