What’s new in openings, DC’s best new restaurant and dining out with your iPhone.
New spots in Petworth, Columbia Heights and Glover Park! Prince of Petworth reports that a new wine bar is opening on 11th and Lamont. Partners include Dan Searing of Temperance Hall/Looking Glass Lounge; Ben Gilligan of the band French Toast; Nick Pimentel of Toolbox Design, Yellow Fever, Gypsy Eyes and Planaria; and Paul Ruppert of the Warehouse. They are looking to open this intimate spot later in the year and a patio is planned.
Jamie Leeds of Hank’s Oyster Bar is opening a gastropub at 14th and Irving. Washingtonian has a great audio profile of Chef Leeds detailing the creative process and her menu can be found by clicking here. I’ve found her cooking to be exciting since she started at 15Ria and can’t wait to try out this new venture. Every naughty foodie bone in my body gets excited when I see sweetbreads, trotters, black pudding and sticky toffee pudding.

Glover Park is getting a surf shack. Surfside will be a casual, dine-is spot with chicken, fish or steak cooked to order with vegetables, rice dishes, salsas, etc.
Who’s number one? Makato. At least according to Zagat. This Japanese restaurant was called “impeccable,” beating out the Inn at Little Washington and Komi as the DC-region’s best restaurant.
The killer app. Melissa McCart from Counter Intelligence joined the iPhone bridage, but points everyone in the direction of the Washington Post’s City Guide application for iPhone.

Of course all the douchy hipsters and sheeple are happy that a White People (and their culturally diverse friendship base) Approved wine bar is opening there.
I wonder how many bothered to go to the place when it was the Deli? Likely not enough else it wouldn’t have closed. I loved it. Great breakfast sandwiches for hangover cures, walking distance, friendly staff.
Now it’s going to be another boring over-priced hangout where people go just to look at each other. Yawn.
