This week I get bored and make a useless map, try with no luck at making a reservation at a fancy new place, see a chef get booted, consider Texas BBQ, want to take a sandwich to a strip club, eat cheap, picture a second Korean war and give you some ham.
-
If you tell your boss you are making an “Obama Ate Here” Google Map, and she says it’s a good idea, it’s okay to do it at work. So yeah, click here for the map of places the Obama’s have eaten

including their recent visit to Del Ray’s Dairy Godmother.
- I’m really really excited for the new Jean-George Vongerichten J&G Steakhouse to open in the new W Hotel. The space looks gorgeous, and hopefully the menu is comparable to the one in Scottsdale. The place opens next week. But seriously people, don’t publish a reservation number if you aren’t prepared to have someone answer the phone, ever.

- Spoiler alert – Teddy Folkman gets booted off The Next Food Network Star. Toss to Capital Spice who do a wonderful job recapping.
- NY-Based Hill Country, a massive BBQ joint, is coming to DC in 2010. How will we feel about Texas barbeque? Can you ever accept beef brisket over pulled pork? How amazing do PB&J cupcakes sound? Remember when 7th Street was stabby and terrifying?
- Hipster sandwich shop Taylor is opening a second location, this on in City Vista off 6th Street. Wonder if you can take their sandwiches into Louis’ Rogue.

- Washingtonian’s Cheap Eats list is up. I once blogged my effort to eat my way through the whole list. Made it about half-way through and lost steam, but got a nice note from Todd Kliman. Ashley Messick is working her way through the 100 Best Restaurants list. Good luck and we’ll be reading!
- There are two Korean carts in town?
- Want some ham?

I’m glad you liked Miss Shirley’s! I went to that same one and was weirded out by the tables in an office foyer, but really think it might be the best breakfast around. Crab and fried green tomato benedict, come on! Hoping you had the Funky Monkey bread too.
Will add Jack’s to the list and am looking forward to Hill Country, what I’ve read sounds beyond promising.
July 1, 2009 at 11:35 am“NY-Based Hill Country… is coming to DC in 2010. How will we feel about Texas barbeque?” Are you seriously implying that “Texas” barbeque can come from New York? I hope not.
July 1, 2009 at 5:13 pmPeople who will eat at a place because a celebrity (including the Prez) ate there are on the short list of people I’d enjoy shooting.
Cross thread points for me.
July 1, 2009 at 5:31 pmWell – the restaurant is based in NY. And they serve Texas barbeque. And I’m not quite sure what to make of it yet. So I’ll stay a NC-loyalist until then. Wait and see.
July 1, 2009 at 5:38 pmOh I really wanted to like Taylor, but I feel robbed when I eat their stuff. Not enough filler.
July 1, 2009 at 5:57 pmMichael – try their risotto balls. They are under $5, a decent portion and really tasty. I liked them better that the sandwich and think it’s a good snack.
July 1, 2009 at 6:02 pmHey Alex,
I spoke to Dakota about possibly getting involved in food photos for your pieces. Let me know if you’re interested and we can talk more.

re: hill country. they have a “moist brisket” that is absolutely AMAZING. seriously. so tender , and, uhh, moist with fantastic flavor. you will love it, if you haven’t had it already.
also, i meant to tell you, i went miss shirley’s. the ambiance was pretty terrible (we went to the one in the inner harbor), but the food was AMAZING. thank you for that tip.
i also checked out this place in baltimore that you would absolutely love. it is called jack’s bistro. if you haven’t gone, please put that on your list!
