This winter the W Hotel's P.O.V Roof Terrace is turning up the heat with warm libations and its trademark cool views of the city. The W's Director of Bar Concepts, Justin Guthrie (formerly of Central and the dearly departed Hummingbird to Mars), has whipped up some brazenly boozy concoctions that you will be praising when the real cold sets in.
These drinks aren't your standard toddies and ciders. Guthrie uses clever kicks like star anise and peanut butter that go beyond the ordinary. Imaginative drinks included the Hot NOT Chocolate with spiced rum, vanilla and milk topped with chocolate dusted marshmallows, the Hot Buttered Rum with peanut butter infused rum butter, clove and cinnamon and my favorite, the Mulled Pear Cider with bourbon, pear liqueur, house-made pear cider and a gentle nudge of star anise. You might turn up your nose at peanut butter infused rum, but don't you dare! Peanut butter is a delicious, sticky glob of goo but this beverage is rather a soft kiss of peanut butter, topped with whipped cream and peanut butter chips.
